+GRNZOOM
I odered a Megellan 500LE, included will be US 3D Topo map. My question, will the topo map include restaurants, gas stations, parks etc. like MapSend Direct Route? Anything I should know about Topo? My only experience has been with MapSend Direct Route I use on my Megellan Gold. Thanks for any advice or comments. Nick Quote Link to comment
ossumguywill
Yes, mapsend topo has absolutely everything that directroute has. The only difference is that you cannot do a street route. Quote Link to comment

Street route.. Like it won't show me how to get to my house to a Starbucks? Sorry for not understanding... Nick Quote Link to comment
+geognerd
I have no experience with Topo, but I can tell you that it won't autoroute. That is, it won't give you turn-by-turn directions. Topo will still show you streets, so you could figure out how to get from your house to Starbucks on your own. Quote Link to comment
+Jamie Z
I don't own Topo 3D, but I do own DirectRoute. My understanding is that the POI database is different for each. For example, DirectRoute doesn't list campgrounds, or many lakes and rivers. I thought 3D didn't have restaurants and other road-related POIs.. Am I incorrect? Jamie Quote Link to comment
ossumguywill
3D has every POI that directroute has plus camping grounds, trails, etc. Quote Link to comment
+GRNZOOM
3D has every POI that directroute has plus camping grounds, trails, etc. So, for traveling I will need MapSend direct route. Bummer.... Nick Quote Link to comment
+gpsblake
I know this was probably mentioned in another thread but costco.com has the 500LE with the topo software for $179, shipping and handling included. The LE is same as the 500 except it uses regular batteries... which can be a plus or a minus depending on how you use it. The only thing I'm not sure of is the coupon thing they are talking about. That makes it even cheaper then the 400. http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?...browse=&s=1 Quote Link to comment
+albsch
You can order the rechargable batteries direct from the magellan website for $20. This included both the battery and the ac cord. This is a "while supplies last" offer from them. Quote Link to comment
