Is anyone else going to be enjoying the nearby areas in the couple days before the event?

As a form of bribery, we will be driving down Thursday and taking the boys to Legoland on Friday (shhh, they don't know yet.) :-D That should buy us some event time.

After taking the kids there all day, you should eat dinner at the Karl Strauss brewery right there by the park Friday night! I don't really drink, but they have some great stuff on-tap there. I did indulge in a dark holiday brew they had on tap when I met the Shop99ers there for dinner after they spent the day at Legoland!

Have fun!

As time allows, I am. That includes an informal caching run to and back from Penchanga Casino Friday night

I love it, another true gambler in the mix. Just sent an email asking about Casinos in the area.

There are several Indian gaming casinos in the area. The Pechanga casino is right there in Temecula...maybe 10 minutes on surface streets from both event locations. There are about 4 other casinos within a 45 min. to an hours driving distance as well. However, Pechaga is a first class place, and has a large gaming area, so there isn't much need to drive that far...unless you have a preference to chains. One of the casinos about an hour away is a Harrah's casino...

Airline booked, is it bad when the airline tickets cost a small fraction of the geocoin collection?

I still can't believe I am flying all the way from PA to CA for a geocoin event. :P

1) Anybody planning on crossing the border to pick up a cache in another country?

Actually, the "cache across the border" doesn't even require you to show your passport. It's a multi, that finishes in Cali. And, the cache owner acknowledges that it can be done without crossing the line. But, your log will show a "Mexican" cache find

I'd like to remind everybody that this is family forum and that all discussions about beer should cease and desist immediately.

Please send samples of any beer that you wish to discuss to me. Address will be provided via PM.

2) Are there any good night caches in the area...UV or otherwise?

Central Park After Dark is a nighttime cache that requires a flashlight and is in Temecula. It's by Snake&Rooster.

If you venture down to San Diego, there is The Forbidden Forest by the DAK Girls as well.

If it's just using your flashlight that interests you...there are several storm drain caches that will take you below the streets of the city as well...weather permitting of course.

Definitely go to Pechanga, there's no need to go to the others. Last month we went to Pechanga first, then to Harrah's a couple of days later. Needless to say, we were disappointed with Harrah's and should have gone back to Pechanga.

I am really looking forward to the GeocoinFest and the Geocoin Poker Challenge, it should be a lot of fun. I want to thank my wife and my kids for being patient with my obsession!

I do have a First Edition GAS Geocoin and that will be one of the three coins I use for my buy-in, I will have to think about the other two.

We are really counting the days, my kids are really looking forward to Disneyland.

I was wondering if there are some bookmark lists for local caches, I checked the Temecula Valley site and the GeocoinFest website but I didn't see any?

We intend to do the night caches and really appreciate the tip about the DAK Girls night cache in San Diego, I have read the logs on that cache and it really looks like a good one.

Just another addiction <_<:)

Probably the week before the event, I'll post a note on both the event page and the geocoinfest forums about a meeting time and location for a caching train (run) to and from Penchanga for anyone who is interested in an evening of caching and gambling.

I hope you and Ed will plan to come :)

ROFLMAO! Do you just reach over the border and grab it then? <_<

Sounds like you need one of these: Buy Avroair a Beer Coin (Of course it would be buy Ron a beer instead. :yikes::) )

Yeah I don't really have 'extras' so I am going to have to think what I can scrounge and donate to the cause, won't matter since I will get the 3 back once I win anyways! Mine! Mine! All Mine! :)

Last time in the area we went to Harrah's and I wasn't keen on it either, didn't visit Pechanga... sounds like a good excuse to go! :)

Is anyone featuring or issuing a new coin at the event?

I don't know what his plans are but count me in. Send me a heads up, I would hate to miss it. Just checked out their website and they have Hold 'Em tables. :yikes:

Keep your eyes open for pre-sales on the event-only coin! Oak Coins will be posting pictures of that coin...most likely this weekend. They will be taking pre-orders to help them decide how many coins to mint. These orders must be picked up at the event...no shipping.

I have looked for this preorder page and could not find anything.

Does anyone have a link for it?

Hmmm I heard rumour of another event coin

The only official event coins are the ones that we have listed/sanctioned.

I will have another coin available, (not personal, and not an event coin). This coin will be available in a special finish, that will only be available at the event. More details to follow.
