Hi!

I am trying to put together a personal coin design and am having some trouble getting some parts of it the way I want. Would someone here be willing to help me out? Or could you point me in the right direction of someone who can??

Here is my basic design...I would like to make it round (for a 2" coin) and am having trouble cleaning up around the scorpion (which is an actual picture of my tattoo).

I would like to have it track able, with its own icon, and possibly sequentially numbered (that's what the 3 Xs are for, it will be changed to a year date if needed).

Beyond that....any advice on things that might need to be changed or might look better?? I would like to keep this one on the simple side, since its my first.

Thanks a ton!!

Also note that most of the coin minters are happy to work with you on the artwork as well. Many people only start with a concept, not even a drawing.

Also, some do have a 'standard' trackable back side that wouldn't cost you extra for that die.

And once you get it finished, I would like to trade, being a scorpio as well.

I think what you have already is already good enough to work with a mint.

Thats for the heads up on the "standard" trackable...I never thought to look into that! I was basically just goofing around with ideas and that was the best I had come up with to the point that I posted. I have since thought about a few different changes that I could make, but am not sure if I want to save those for future coins or not.

Since I am still so new to the process, I have no clue when I will be ready to actually persue getting this one minted. I am hoping by spring, but it might be sooner.

I hadnt thought about the option of trading at all....but I am not oposed to it. Just hadnt gotten into that mindset yet.

This is what I came up with for the front of the coin. You did say you wanted to keep it simple right?

I kept the tattoo image as is and just did a little outline work to cover up your skin...lol.

I think it turned out pretty good.

That is an awesome design. I'd take a few of those.

This is going to be a little harder than I thought! So far there are three people tweaking this for me. I am going to have to decide which version I like better....or maybe I will take the chicken way out and let you all decide after I get "final drafts" from everyone.... :D;)

Thanks a ton everyone!!

You can get a good idea of the costs by checking out oakcoins web site, they have an interactive pricing page. Even if you don't go through them, it will give you an idea of typical pricing. I know they do great work, have great customer service, and good pricing.

Yeah, I have been playing with that page for a while.

My biggest problem is that I don't know how the reservations, presales, sales, etc process works here. Does the person having the coin made front all of the money to mint the coin and then when the coins sell, get paid back (so to speak)? Or do buyers pay ahead of time, essentially helping to cover the cost of minting the coins?

If I have to pay for it all up front, then it will be spring before I can manage it. If buyers pay ahead of time, then I might be able to swing it much earlier. I also have no paypal access, so would only be able to take payments by mail via money orders. Would that make a difference to buyers??

I'm sure that it would. I'm fairly new to this as well, but PayPal is the de-facto standard for coin purchasing.

Without PayPal, I bet you wouldn't even sell 50 coins.

Some people do presales on their own, some pay up front and then sell them, some don't sell them at all - only trade. Others work with a company that will do the sales for them (there are several that will do that, it certainly doesn't hurt to ask them in any case) Many buyers these days do not want to pay for the coins until the artwork is fully approved and they have seen coin samples. They may RESERVE coins before that though. (Paypal does have a rule about how far in advance you can bill someone before delivering a product. In the past there have been some that had to give refunds because of that)

What does no Paypal access mean? anyone can create a personal paypal account. If you are primarily going to be trying to sell them, it will make a big difference to buyers if you don't accept paypal.

If you are doing these more as a signature item, then I would reconsider the tracking... that extra $1.50 a coin adds up really quick, as does the icon if you get one. though without tracking you can't sell it in the forums. I know there are many collectors that only want trackable coins with icons. I'm NOT one of them. And as a general rule, I don't buy personal coins. I'll trade for them though, and I don't care if it is trackable or not.
