Bonepile
I'm a brand NOOB to geocaching (one week, 4 finds). Today I found a cache with 2 small clear unlabled bottles with an unknown liquid inside. What is the proper thing to do. There was no mention of them in the log, so I just left them. How should I report this? Do I log the find or notify Groundspeak first. Should the cache be archived/disabled or what? I tried calling Groundspeak phone # and left a message. I also sent a ticket to the help desk. So far no response. I'm not going to log it untill I get some guidance. Quote Link to comment
Bull Moose
Contact the owner and make him aware of the situation. He or she should be the one that deals with it. Quote Link to comment
brownie2
Probably just bubbles like they give out at weddings. Whoever put them in there probably never thought anything about it. Quote Link to comment
sbell111
... I'm not going to log it untill I get some guidance. Go ahead and log it. Mention the bottles, if you feel like it. You could also have simply traded them out and tossed them in the trash. I agree that it is probably just bubbles. Quote Link to comment
Bad_CRC
bubbles. it's good to be vigilant, but I wouldn't automatically assume the very worst in every situation. Log the find and mention the bottles so the next person or owner can check them out. Quote Link to comment
nfa
I would trade them out, and chuck them...they may simply be bubbles, but even if they are, those bubble containers can leak and mess up a cache...I'd take them out, because that's what I'd want someone to do with one of my caches... +IfIOnlyHadABrain
I had a situation last week, similar but different. (I am also a newbie) What I found was a rusty old folding knife (not a pocket size one). Knowing that this sport is supposed to be kid friendly (my 8 y/o was with me) and that knives are among the not-recommended trade items, I simply removed and pitched it. Hope that was ok. Yea, I've removed knives and matches many times for that reason. (I don't see how kids too young for those items would be finding caches out in the woods unsupervised anyway... but whatever. ) Quote Link to comment
Lovey Pigs
some how you would think people would realize that some things just are not meant to be in a container. anything looks like should not be there, remove, log and replace. would hate for soemone else to get hurt beacuse i did not remove an item.
