With just over 300 caches done and 50 of these ( excluding my own ) archived, I've worked out that since 2004, 17% of the geocaches I've attempted have been consigned to the great cache in the sky. That seems to be roughly an attrition rate of 5% pa - which seems surprisngly good.

Is this normal, or am I sub-normal?

What are your stats on this?

Very similar numbers all round - joined a week or so before you, found just under 300, about 47 of which are now archived, even about the same number of forum posts! :) We're both normal, I think... :)

Think I'd better change my caching name to 'Jonah'

1308 found of which a staggering 303 (not counting events) have since been archived. That's just over 23% :)

In mitigation, yer 'onour, I've been caching since 2002 and a lot of those archived are caches that I found a long (in caching terms) time ago.

[EDIT]... If I also ignore 'Locationless' caches, that drops to 267 or just over 20% which is a little more reasonable, I suppose.

Unfortunately our numbers are even worse than Chris and Maria, and Pharisee. Of our 498 finds, 168 have been archived = 34%. Even if locationless and event caches are removed, we're still left with 27% loss.

In our defence, we were one of the most active early caching teams. We hit the first UK 100 found in our first 7 months from September 2001, and then slowed down (it's not about the numbers) so the average age of our "found" caches is older than anyone else.

56 archived (excluding events) out of 548 finds or 10.2% in about 2 and a half years- not too bad.

But 15% of the foreign caches (98) I have done have been archived. I'm sure this must mean something but I'm not sure what. :)

Well I am shocked :) removing all the events/ locationless caches only 63 have been archived out of 469 finds thats only 13.4% !!! and I have been caching since 2002.

Caching for 502 days, 702 finds and 62 are now archived (not including events)

That's 8.8% so that's not too bad is it?

6.4% p.a.

Your cache is at risk if you do not keep up maintenance on it, other caches are available, terms and conditions apply.
