amazing race: Detour--Geocache vr Letterbox

What would most amateurs choose? Team can't split up, Gps'rs and Letterbox clues are in opposite directions. Distance for both treks are the same. One you have to interpret clue on the way, but you would know where the box is on arrival. The other would provide you a direct route, but then you have a hunt at the end.

I would say, "Letterbox."

 

Learning to use the GPS on such short notice could throw them for a loop especially the 50' radius thing. Of course, the clues for the letterbox could throw those who aren't well rounded in thinking processes for a loop, too.

 

OTOH, anyone experienced in both would probably choose "geocache" and apply the appropriate skills. I'd rather not risk a really esoteric clue when I could brute force a 50' radius.

I'd say "gimme the coordinates" hands down. It's a lot easier to geocache with set coordinates. If you're experienced, you know what to look for when you're within 50'.

 

Letterboxing can be more difficult at times since they use nothing but clues. Sometimes the clues can be a bit ambiguous...and downright frustrating if you're a puzzle retard like I am...and I SUCK at compass readings.

letter boxing hands down. The cluse are always there and you dont have to wory about the gps quiting on you at the worst time.

how about 'really evily hidden micro hidden a half mile away' vs 'ammo can hidden 3 miles away' for the challenge instead?

 

and my evil, I mean along the lines of a mr magneto on a very intricate steel statue, with coords off by a small bit as well

Give me the coordinates and let me go. If anyone can't find one of those big amazing race clue boxes from 50 feet away, they should be sent home.

Coordinates. For clues to work, you often have to know/understand the mindset of the person who created them. They can be crafted to be tricky or obfuscated. Coordinates don't have any of those problems. Plug'n'play and go.
