Ended up DNFing this one, going back this afternoon. Forgot my caching sheets. Thought I'd found the cache, a "green" lock-n-lock. I was actually somebodys lunch that they had lost. It contained a stack of napkins and a very very mold sandwich which made the blue container look green.

Yesterday I found a cache with five dead spiders in it. There was one big spider that managed to live. That gave me quite the scare when I popped open the top! The spiders were little and looked like crabs. They can hop far too. Yikes!!!

I took a local Scout Troop out one time to teach them a little about GPS use, and since there was a geocache close by I figured it'd be a good example of a game you can use a gps for. We searched high and low at the cache location, I was pretty sure the cache was missing because I had descrambled the clue which flat out described its location and it wasn't there.

A few minutes went by while the Scouts searched for it and then I heard one of them cry out that he found it. I went over to check and upon getting to him, I thought, "Hmmm, that's weird that isn't how the cache container was described. I'm sure it wasn't just a zip lock baggie." Upon opening the baggie I found, marijuana, a pipe, two lighters and some rolling papers. Had to make sure I explained to them that this was DEFINITELY not the geocache.

Believe it or not on at least 6 other occasions I've found old golf balls in a cache. Crazy, who in their right mind would think that this was a good trade for geoswag. :)

I have officially been caching for 12 days now. Last weekend while searching about I found an almost full bottle of vodka hidden in some vines in a city park. Hubby, being of the law enforcement type, drained the bottle & returned it. I, being of the evil teacher sort, wanted to refill it with water & add yellow food coloring. B)

Best that I've heard of in my area (from a trusted friend) was a World War 2 bomb that washed up on the beach near the cache.

What's the problem with unopened condoms? Strange item to trade, but they don't bite. You should know where 'some' people wear them! To eliminate the 'but my kid could see it'- argument: A condom (or it's packaging) will not do any damage to your kid's eyes. It will not cause brain damage. I reckon seeing a Britney Spears video is more damaging to your kid than the sight of an unopend condom wrapper.

If you want your children to be safe from these 'harmful' parafenalea in cache containers, don't take them geocaching. The point of the game is finding boxes wherein strangers trade stuff. These boxes are without supervision, out in the open. Doesn't sound like a child-safe game to me...

I agree. Sometimes I joke that it would be fun to find porn and sex toys....but if I actually did I'd be surprised and wouldn't want them. But c'mon....they find an unused condom in wrapper and they shut the cache and never return? What a nutjob. If you're with kids and don't want them to see it, take it so they don't see it....or, if they ask about it - tell them what it is and that you don't agree that it should be there, or that you don't want them touching it. But get over it and enjoy your day. Geesh...

I found a dozen or so little green army men in a cache. And a couple of bouncey balls that were....Dirty! :)

Do not worry, I am OK and I remembered to do a little CITO. I took the trash out of the cache and replaced it with some "good" swag! :)

This wasn't in the cache(thankfully!), but I was searching for this

and found two abandoned puppies at the waypoint. They are a couple of sweethearts! I'm fostering them until I can find them good homes. :)

You are a :) nice person!!

Are you kidding me? :) Geocaching, according to the website, is a family sport. People are supposed to realize that a five year old might be looking with their parents. A condom is totally contrary to the guidelines that Groundspeak intends the sport to follow. We take our five kids with us all the time. The oldest is 10, the youngest is not even one. We love it.

I would hope that people would respect that fact and remember it before they put any adult material in a cache.

I'm already surprised Keystone hasn't said this is a innapopriate topic.

I just remebered something else. I found a lucky rabbits foot and a horseshoe. Now I ask this. Why would you leave such lucky items in a cache. I know I need all the luck I can get when caching. That is why I grabbed the horseshoe and left the rabbits foot for the next cacher. WHY???? If you have a good luck charm and then leave it in a cache, does that mean the person who left it is out of luck?:blink:

Stranger things have happened!! ;) I know this may seem far fetched to some, you know, finding a lucky horseshoe, so if need be I have proof. I can take a picture of it and post it. Its not like I found a dead body that had been stabbed and rapped. I know IF I had run across something like that I would not have stuck around to "examine" it. I'd go back to my truck, call the local police department and let them take care of it from there. In conclusion, Lucky Charms should not be left in caches, they are lucky for crying out loud, do not get rid of them!

Whats wrong with little green army men and bouncy balls. what you define as "Good swag." may not be to others and what if the next person to go to that cache collects dirty bouncy balls and little green army men you would have spoiled their trading. well at least your spelling was correct and you didnt put a dead lady next to the cache for some one to find.

I know you are joking, but....They were really dirty, like scratched up and stepped on dirty. I know that these items are not wierd but, any swag is good swag, but dirty swag......thats another story. I just wanted to make sure the cache contents were nice and clean for the next cacher! Honestly though, I can not think of anything wierd I've found that would justify posting here. Maybe some rocks.....and they were not even agates........GEEZ! :)

I love looking at this topic and watching you guys argue over condoms. Yes they shouldn't be in the caches though. Young kids will not want to see that

My wife and I were geocaching in Charleston, SC (on vacation)...

then...she noticed the street sign: "Longitude Lane" (we were on the corner where it meets East Bay Street).

She had a good eye...

There's also metal sign in the cement sidewalk too, at that corner, saying "Longitude Lane".

Coords: lat="32.774664" lon="-79.927234"

the strangest thing I found happened to be the first time I went out with two of my guy friends. I found the 'business end' of a plastic lady (aka adult toy for men)... To be honest I thought it was a dolls leg so I went to pick it up wondering why my guy friends were making such wierd faces and keeping their distance... I laughed myself silly when I figured out what it was I was looking at. I sometimes wonder how upset the gentleman was when he realized he'd lost it. :)

A hotel room key...

I traded for it just for fun.

After leaving the cache I realized I could not keep it because if my wife found it I am not sure she would believe I got it out of a cache, since there was no logical reason for taking it.

So I threw it out pretty quickly.

I found a bag that seid "snake eggs" and when i opened it a washer that had an elastic went crazy and it scared the crap out of me!

This is absolutely hilarious! I laughed out loud until my sides hurt.

A few years ago I stopepd at a convenience store while on a long drive to Cali, I couldn't help but pick up an envelope that said "snake eggs". When I opened it wow did I get a shock. The rubber band spun the washer against the sides of the envelope and it sounded like a rattlesnake (which are quite common in my area), I promplty yelped and threw the envelope violently at the cashier. She burst out laughing and gave me the gag gift for free .

Since then I've had good luck keeping it in the refridgerator for when unsuspecting house guests go to get something to drink.

I don't the value or why somebody left this. I found a One Touch ULtra Blood Monitoring system. It was unopened and in the the box. The test strips are out of date. I didn't need it but it was taking up the whole ammo box. My wife thinks I 'll get some kind of illness from it. But it looks like its never been used. What should I do with it?

Hi PT Tex.

If you really and truly don't know what to do with it, send it to me. The One Touch is for people and/or animals with diabetes. While there are no parts of the electronic device that can cause injury, you should not use the injector or pins because they could be contaminated.

There are many pet shelters and other places that are in need of these kinds of electronics to monitor diabetic animals. If you really just get stumped and don't know what to do with it, sent it to Tabby's Place. You'll be glad you did.

My great uncle did that same joke to me in 1977. It was funny though! Apparently they used to sell those in tourist traps out west.

Yer i also fond a condom, no biggie, left it for the next person......

That is getting common, but it shouldn't. We found it several times in caches ...

Rubbers may be common, but what about a used rubber!!! I found one in a cache in West Virginia. Sick pigs...and while searching for a cache at a rest stop in New York, I had to wade through piles of used toilet paper to find the cache. In Vermont, I ran across a used rubber stockpile that must have been there forever! Ah the joys of caching!

Recently, I ran across multiple caches that had religious material in it. They ranged from Chick tracts (those mini comic books with stories about wayward people who find Jesus), to "how to repent" guides, to programs from nearby church services. I'm new to geocaching, so I'm not sure if that's a normal thing, or if anyone else would consider it as weird as I do. I don't have a problem with religion per se, but some of the stuff was a little over the line for me so I made swaps to clear it out of the cache.

But, hey, at least it wasn't a used condom. B)

The only other weird thing I've found inside a cache was someone's used movie ticket stubs. I'm glad a cacher before me caught the 6:30 showing of Hancock before they found this cache, but it just seemed like a really random thing to put inside a cache. Maybe there was a coupon for free popcorn on the reverse side of the ticket stubs that I missed. B)

I also found a hotel room key. Room #3 at a local Dollar Inn, I believe. Traded for it because, well...how weird is that!? xD

Also found a bag of neon yellow slime. I'm guessing it may have once been a squishy toy that melted. (God, I HOPE that's what it was! ) Trashed it out. Could've turned in to a really slimey, fluorescent mess!

I haven't found anything weird IN a cache, but I did find a vibrating egg (sex toy) while out looking for one. The cache was missing and this was where the cache was supposed to be.

As for the condoms, and I know I'[m going to get blasted for this, but I think it's an acceptable item.

People are saying that they're taking their children out with them to hunt for these, and they're saying that it's a great educational hobby that allows them time to talk with the family. Well what's a better time to have a talk with your kids about safe sex than when your out in the middle nowhere with no distractions. Would you rather fight the tv for their attention?

They're going to see them eventually! It's NOT going to kill them (I promise  ).
