ossumguywill
For the magellan hidden menu, does anyone know what XO paramaters mean? (for anyone who doesn't know, some magellan units have a secret menu. Learn more at http://gpsinformation.net/main/magellan-codes.txt.) Quote Link to comment
robertlipe
Crystal Oscillator thermal compensation. One reasonably good description of that is at http://www.wenzel.com/documents/xo.html - TXCO and OXCO just doesn't work well in outdoorsy/battery operated equipment. Not to sound snobbish, but if that description makes no sense to you (and honestly, probably even if it does) you shouldn't mess with it. :-) Quote Link to comment

Magellen is a very "touchy/feely" kind of company. :-) Quote Link to comment
ossumguywill
Are the XO parameters for the thermometer, the antenna, judging atmospheric conditions or something else? Quote Link to comment
robertlipe
Something else: Crystal Oscillator thermal compensation. Crystals change frequency slightly at different temperatures and the amount of distortion is unique to each specific crystal. Over time, the handhelds attempt build an internal compensation table so it knows that at N degrees the freq will be off by Y Hz and know to adjust for that. Quote Link to comment
ossumguywill
Thanks. I never would have guessed that. Quote Link to comment
