XO parameters

Crystal Oscillator thermal compensation.

 

One reasonably good description of that is at http://www.wenzel.com/documents/xo.html - TXCO and OXCO just doesn't work well in outdoorsy/battery operated equipment.

 

Not to sound snobbish, but if that description makes no sense to you (and honestly, probably even if it does) you shouldn't mess with it. :-)

 

Actually I believe it's hugs and kisses. Magellen is a very "touchy/feely" kind of company. :-)

Something else: Crystal Oscillator thermal compensation.

 

Crystals change frequency slightly at different temperatures and the amount of distortion is unique to each specific crystal. Over time, the handhelds attempt build an internal compensation table so it knows that at N degrees the freq will be off by Y Hz and know to adjust for that.
