+Paulsan
I just picked up a copy of Mapsource US Topo and installed it on my PC at work. Funny thing is that I didn't need to unlock the maps. I transfered maps to my 60CXs with no problems. Is this normal? I thought the maps were locked so you could only use them on two units. Am I wrong? Edited September 29, 2006 by Paulsan Quote Link to comment
+gpsblake
Topo doesn't require unlocking. MetroGuide and other non-topo mapping programs do. Don't know why Topo is exempt from this, probably because it doesn't auto-route. Quote Link to comment

+Alan2
Thanks for the info guys. So I can use this with as many GPSr units as I like? This came from the license agreement when you install Topo-mine is 5 years old so your license might be different. Interesting that it doesn't limit the number of GPS's you can load maps into but does limit the number of computers that you can load the Topo software. I thought they also allow you to copy on a laptop, as well as a desktop, but the license does not seem to allow that. (Hmmm. I've sent an email to Garmin to verify. +larryc43230
2. YOU MAY: ... c) use a copy of the Product on a home or portable computer if that copy is never loaded at the same time it is loaded on your primary computer. ... This clause is what allows you to use the software on two computers. You simply can't use ("load") the software on both computers at the same time. The use of the term "load" is a bit confusing here. I'm fairly sure it means "loaded into RAM," i.e., run. So you can install it on two computers but run it on only one at a time. Even the over-priced Photoshop can be legally installed on two PCs, as long as only one copy is running at any given time. --Larry Quote Link to comment

You can load/copy/use Topo on two of your computers. Here's the email. Thank you for your inquiry. Yes, it would be fine to do this on both. Or as an alternative, image on my laptop computer and use your disk on the desktop? I am not referring to the technical aspect, as I understand this can be done, but rather whether this is allowed by your license? Grasscatcher
And it's older. Much older..... Well,....DUH !......how much do ground contours (topographical data) change from year to year????? In some aspects it has more data than CN 7,or 8, and even v9 to come.... No autorouting for streets, and not all the latest streets, but also less cluttered (than 1:24000 maps). not "locked", ....several good points also. Perfect if you need topographical data on small screens (on most GPSrs) , but if you need to have your hand held and guided to a cache with turn by turn instructions, get something else (CN) Quote Link to comment
