You can use the Find Caches Along a Route tool. I used the Find Caches Along a Route tool for the last long drive I did and found it's best to be prepared with lots of kml files already uploaded, you can get results quickly once you have created routes.

I made kml files that described my routes using Google Earth. In Google Earth I used the route tool but saved each route as a kml file rather than a default kmx file.

Once I created the kml files that described the routes I uploaded the files to geocaching.com and did that by using the "Find Caches Along a Route" link from my account page on geocaching.com. If the route was too long I broke it into segments. Google Earth will automatically select a route so I used segments to match the roads I intended to use. I could control the results much like a PQ and I could select distance from the route as a search parameter.

It didn't really work as planned because the route changed a fair bit as we went along but we did alright.
