CallawayMT
As some of you may know Berntsen, one of the premier survey marker making company's, has been working on a book on Surveying Monuments. Aptly titled "Lasting Impressions" a glimpse into the Legacy of Surveying. The book is being printed at this time and is available for Pre-order at the following link. Lasting Impressions In the September issue of POB, there can be found a short synopsis of the book found on page 4, soon to be released. POB - September Issue I am sure every person that frequents this forum will need to have a copy. CallawayMT Quote Link to comment
mloser
Dang straight! I will be ordering mine tonight. Quote Link to comment
square nail
I know that CallawayMT and myself have photos in the book. Did any of the rest of you that frequent this forum submit photos and or stories? The slide show on Berntsen's web site looks like some of the photos that we see in our forum. The U.S. C.B. squared stone is one of CallawayMT's photos. Check it out at http://www.berntsen.com/ Squarenail Quote Link to comment
+Harry Dolphin
I submitted photos from two benchmarks. With the request for name and city, perhaps they will publish one. [] Quote Link to comment
StripeMark
I ordered my copy about a month ago. They told me they would be shipping them out in the first part of November. Quote Link to comment
+Zhanna
I submitted around half a dozen photo/story combinations, and have been told that at least three of them made it into the book. I'm getting more excited by the day ... ~Zhanna http://surveymarks.planetzhanna.com/ Quote Link to comment
+Holtie22
A sneak preview of the book with a few short excerpts was featured in the most recent issue of Professional Surveyor. Professional Surveyor Magazine Online Quote Link to comment
CallawayMT
Last week I was able to take a tour of the Berntsen facility, after which Rhonda Rushing went through the whole book with me. She was very nice and was really excited about the book and was impressed by the submissions from the Benchmarking group. It should be coming out soon and has some great stories, photos and new marks to go find. CallawayMT Quote Link to comment
+Zhanna
Some sample pages are now available for viewing. I was surprised to see that one of my "stories" is among them! ~Zhanna Quote Link to comment
Wintertime
Which one of the samples is yours, Zhanna? And what were your other two stories that made it in? Patty Quote Link to comment

+Holtie22
Mine came yesterday. Makes me prouder than I already was to be a member of the world's second oldest profession. I wish I had been aware of this project in time to contribute - Lots of stories from 28 years of surveying. Quote Link to comment
+Harry Dolphin
I received my copy today!! Andy Bear and I made pages 32-33! Quote Link to comment
+BuckBrooke
I have "unofficially" received my copy. The wife got it for me for Christmas; thus, having had it pass through my hands from the post-lady, she has received a package from Berntsen that suspiciously looks like (obviously is) the book. Waiting for Christmas... *twiddling thumbs* Quote Link to comment
square nail
I received my copy last Friday and must say that Rhonda and her staff did a superb job. This is a very high quality book filled with photos and stories that I will read many times. +rogbarn
With all of my new presents surrounding me this afternoon (including a new PDA!), I sat in a comfy chair and read this book. What wonderful stories and great history highlighting an interesting hobby (for us at least). Quote Link to comment
Z15
I got one too. Appears there is a photo placement goof on page 28. The area photo with blowup is supposed to be of the triangluation station but its reference mark No.1. They omiited the station mark and its location? +Zhanna
I got one too. Appears there is a photo placement goof on page 28. The area photo with blowup is supposed to be of the triangluation station but its reference mark No.1. They omiited the station mark and its location? That was one of mine, and I also immediately noticed the omission of the station mark. (But I have not questioned them about it). I can assure you that I did indeed submit close-ups and area views of the station mark as well as the reference marks, all clearly legible (and labeled, in addition), so all the information was readily available to them. I can't explain why the layout turned out as it did! ~Zhanna Quote Link to comment

Papa-Bear-NYC
I also found one article which I think is in error. Anyone know how to contact them? I know there is a disclaimer about the content being provided by the contributors, etc., but still they may be able to forward my comment to the original author for some fact checking. But it is a great book, isn't it. Quote Link to comment
