+RealWorldAvatars
Okay, this question is for the collectors out there. What's the general preferred size for geocoins? I'm assuming that the people who squirrel away coins until their mattress jingles probably have some sort of plastic sleeves or other mass-produced storage gear; are these designed for a specific diameter of coin? Thanks in advance for any info! - CindyV (Mrs. RWA) Quote Link to comment
+vtblackdog
My preferred coin size is a 2". There seems to be more detail that can be crammed into the coin without it looking jammed ... Tracking Time. Quote Link to comment
+Team JSAM
I personally like the 1.75 but it really depends on the coin some coins need more room and some need less, just as long as its not to cluttered then I think any coin size is great. Quote Link to comment
+ozymandiasism
It really depends on the design.... if you have tons of details then 2" coin might be the way to go. But 1.75" is also a decent size Quote Link to comment
+Rattlingcrew
I like 2 inch coins, but if you need a place to park your Jeep, that takes a 3 inch coin! Glen Quote Link to comment

ParentsofSAM
Well I like 1.5" coins. They just seem to fit in the flips and the binder better. But if your design can not (or should not) be crammed on a smaller coin then go for the bigger one. Quote Link to comment
+DresselDragons
I like the 1.75...you can show more detail...those 3 inch coins scare me! I'd hate to drop one on my toe! Quote Link to comment
+TMOCM
1.5" coin too small, 2" coin too large, 1.75" coin just the right size! Quote Link to comment
Jake - Team A.I.
As long as I can fit it into my binders, I really don't care. Quote Link to comment
+crake
If a design goes well with a 1.75" design I go for that. If the design is complex and calls for 2" I go for that. Quote Link to comment
+avroair
1.5" is the norm for me. Larger than that and they get unruly in a binder. Quote Link to comment
+summerandnana
I like MICROS Quote Link to comment
+nutlady
Good question for me.......I was wondering as well! I will be watching this! Quote Link to comment
Lakersfan559
I like big and heavy coins. However, size doesn't matter. At least thats what I,ve been told lol. Quote Link to comment
+charliewhiskey
I like MICROS Me too! Quote Link to comment
+Bhob
Based on the replies so far, I conclude that there is no "preference" There are almost as many different "I likes" as there are responders So, I would suggest that you make what YOU like (for no other reason, just in case you get stuck with a bunch of them) Quote Link to comment
+RealWorldAvatars
Heehee! I was just concluding the same thing. I'm practically awe-struck by the notion of 3" coins, but yowsers, I sure don't want to carry a sack of 'em in my caching pack. They sound heavy! I've decided to go with 1.5". My design is fairly simple, so it should look good on the smaller coin, and there's a better chance of it fitting into more caches. Since I live in-city, a lot of the caches I find are micros and smalls. Thanks, everyone, for your input! Quote Link to comment

I've been disappointed by some coins that turn out to be about half the thickness, and mostly zinc so they feel like they could easily be snapped in half by a 5 year old. Quote Link to comment

+ranger216
I like MICROS Me too! The only thing I like about micros is that u can put them in a small cache,,, and seems to be more and more of those these days.. also cost is less so if someone steals if from that cache.. u dont feel so badly Quote Link to comment

The thickness also depends on the diameter of the coin, IMHO I think 1.5" coins should be 3.5mm thick and 2" coins should be 4mm thick. I learned something not to long ago concerning thickness, even at 3.5mm thick on 1.5" coin if there is a lot of raised 3-D work then that takes out more metal therefore feeling lighter(so I have been told, maybe someone can clarify). Prowler53
3.5mm is fine if you are not using a 3d image. Otherwise I would go with a 4mm thickness. Thats what I'm being told anyway Quote Link to comment
57chevy
I'd have to say I prefer the 2" or larger coins, although, the Maryland 05' were pretty nice because of the thickness. Quote Link to comment
+Rattlingcrew
I amde the three inch coins just to get the history on the back. The manhole cover idea kind of fell into place. We originally were going to do a two inch coin, but the text was so small. On the Meades Coin it was the same thing, the text was going to be too small on a an 1.75 coin, so we went to 2". Glen Even on a 2 inch coin, the text was pretty small. Thanks go to Glenn721 for this photo! Quote Link to comment
