+DrakeWoodie
Hi there. I have been caching for a few years now off and on. I've come to enjoy some of the spots that I would never have known existed if it weren't for a geocache being there. What I would like to know is which geocaches in western PA are your favorite caches for nice places to see or unique sights. I did four caches in Heartwood Acres today and thought the park was a must see. Not only did I enjoy the park while looking for the caches but I spent an hour or so walking around the mansion and thru the garden. There was also a very nice park in Butler, Alameda Park, that I loved. One cache took me past a cemetary for an old insane hospital. Creepy but interesting. These are just a few of my favorites in the area. Where are your favorite "must see" locations and caches in western PA? I would like to visit some of them in the future. I live in New Kensington and would have no problem going to Erie or even towards the middle part of the state. I haven't really done many to the south but would go that way if you have any nice caches you like. Thanks in advance for your suggestions. Drakewoodie, aka JFK Quote Link to comment
+The Leprechauns
Hi, One good way to find great geocache locations is to check out the "favorite caches" lists that people put together. Click on the link in my signature line, below, to see mine. Many of the caches on my list are here in Western PA, 'cause I live here, but it's a nationwide favorites list. If a cache is on my favorites list, it's a good bet that it will show up on others' favorites list as well. That will lead you to yet a different group of caches. In Western PA, Quest Master has organized his favorites list as top ten lists for each county. That is a great way to present the information, as opposed to one long list like mine that has stuff from Arizona and Florida on it. Check out the Pennsylvania's Favorite Caches list, and the individual lists by TPrints and Nellsnake, for some other good examples. Quote Link to comment

+H2OBob
I've been to some of the most scenic places in western PA, thanks to geocaching. Stop by my 'favorite' bookmark list HERE. Quote Link to comment
cmdcntr
There are several in the Allegheny National Forest area around the Allengheny Reservoir. One of 'em is mine (Sergeant's Point Cache) GCx36C. The forest is beautiful and there are several you could do in a day or certainly in a weekend trip. Camping is nice (look for Tracy Ridge Campground.) I have had a great time geocaching, which I just started this summer. We went "amphibious", which we take to meant boating in then hiking the rest of the way. Th reservoir can be seen on your atlas map about 45 mins east of Erie, PA, straddling the New York,PA border have fun Edited September 29, 2006 by cmdcntr Quote Link to comment

+koikeeper
"Hillbilly Slide" is a great caching site for a hot summer day. Wear your bathing suit! "Panties in the Woods" is another of ImpalaBob's favorites. Quote Link to comment
+rhelt100
Take a shot at GCA564 Squirrel's Stash. It's definitely my favorite of the 340 I've done so far. It's about a 15 -20 minute drive north of butler on state route 308. The parking area is less than 500 feet from the cache, but it's a short high terrain hike with a view that will make you want to stay for hours. While you're in the area, grab my cache SGL-95 Moss Quarry. There's also another nice one in a different part of the same SGL, Moniteau swamp which is a pleasant hike on a mostly flat trail with swamp on both sides. Quote Link to comment

Guyute1210
I have to agree with dsmyhubby. There are soo many great ones in Venango County and the surrounding area, that it would take way too long to list. Quote Link to comment
oscar2
I have to agree with The Leprechauns, Quest Master caches are not only some of the most scenic areas of SW PA, but also his are in places of historic interest usually. Quote Link to comment
