laurabird
I just won this on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...N%3AIT&rd=1 It's my first gps unit. I bought it without really knowing anything about whether or not it's a good one *it's older, and I had no luck finding reviews on it.... so does anyone here have any thoughts about it, or anything they'd like to share? +BlueDeuce
I don't know, but the paint job on that ammocan you found back in June is pretty sweet. Quote Link to comment
+embra
Here's a link to the manual, if you need one. Looks like the Pioneer was quite a pioneer. Quote Link to comment
+VE6NS
That model is the first GPS I bought. It was a very good unit with none of the bells and whistles you see on even the basic models of today. Even after I purchased a Legend I still used it alot and even took it along on my first caching experience in '03. Quote Link to comment
+Cacheoholic
I have owned a Magellan Blazer and GPS 300 which are very similar units. Biggest down fall is that the coordinates only resolve to the “hundredths” (DD MM.MM) of a minute. What does that mean? .01 minute is equal to approx. 50’ - 70’ in most of the USA. Therefore it will most likely only get you within 50’ – 100’ of the cache. It’s just going to be a little more challenging. Quote Link to comment
laurabird
So I got it today. I tried the thing out... and I couldn't get it to pick up more than two satellites. The manual says "After the GPS receiver has received positioning data from at least 3 satellites (approximately 2-3 minutes) it will begin computing a position fix..." but it took like 15 minutes for it just to pick up those two satellites. I was standing in a nice clear area. I don't know if I was doing something wrong, or if perhaps I have a janky GPS unit that doesn't work Quote Link to comment

If the unit is turned on more than 250miles from its last fix it takes a little longer to get a new fix. I have one of these called the 315 and I've replaced it with an eXplorist 210. The accuracy of the eXplorist is much better. Quote Link to comment
+DustyWalker
My father had one that he used for a bit while geocaching, hunting etc. He has since graduated to a Venture Quote Link to comment

I did this with mine to reset the location. After that is only took a couple of minutes. Quote Link to comment
