We'll Never Forget 9/11 #1 (Just published!) GCY804

About 5 years ago, we placed our first Geocache (Patriotic Pride GC20BE) not to far from here. It was placed after the events of 9/11/2001. Five years later, the cache is still there and we still have not forgotten those that died in the 9/11 event or those that fight or work to protect our freedom every day, 24/7/365. This includes the Armed Forces, Local and National Public Safety workers and everyone that supports them.

This cache is labeled #1, and I would hope we could get at least one in every State. If you would like to place a similar memorial cache, please contact me and I’ll maintain a list supply you with the next number available.

I am working on custom graphics for the cache, and approved caches will be able to use the graphic on the cache website.

We’ll never forget!

---Wow, 13 in less than a day! Don't worry if your State is listed, there is no limit of one per state. I'd also like them outside the USA.

Requirements are very simple, it needs to be a new cache, and needs to follow the standard name of "We'll Never Forget 9/11 #" This allows the caches to be searched under a common name, and reference the other caches in the series. We'll supply a website that you can link to for that informatin. If you need help setting up the HTML for the page, we are happy to help.

Thanks for your support!!

FYI, This is not limited to one per state. I would love to see one for every person that died in the events of 9/11. It is also open to ANY location, world wide!

We put a lot an Patriotic items in ours (American flags, American flag lapel pens, stickers, buttons, etc and it would be nice if other followed suit)

You might want to check with the owner of this cache for CA. It's disabled right now, but the owner is a fairly active cacher and might want to re-enable it to participate in this. :anitongue:

I have created a page to a link that lists all the other "We'll Never Forget 9/11 caches." This will help prevent regular edits to each page.

There are a lot of memorial caches that have been created in the past, and I'm not trying to take anything away from them.

I would like to create at least 50 new caches and at least one in every State and Country.

It would be great if every caching club or organation step up to the challenge.

I am working mine up. I know where it will go, I will place it tonight when I get home. I am already typing up the listing. It will be GCY8TP when listed. I just need to finalize the North coordinates.

Part of my coordinates are 42.911'. I wanted 911 as part of my coordinates. I have been wanting to put a cache near there for some time. I just never did. How ironic that the place I have been eyeing for so long turns out to have those coordinates.

Do they all have to be put out today? Is there a time limit?

I would not think so. I just really wanted to get that date on the cache personally.

No time limit... well, none so far... hit me up in 6 months, and there might be :D

The big part of the deal, is that we don't forget!

The third cache we found was called "American Pride" and was placed as a show of pride. It was retired on 9/11/2002 in memory of those killed in the WTC tragedy. GC21B3 is the waypoint for it. It was stuffed with lots of different patriotic memorabilia.

Yeah, you only have about 24 hours I think. Since the original message was confusing, I hope you don't mind that I edited it down removing the list. It might be best to just keep linking to your site as you update it.

GCY8TP, We'll Never Forget 9/11 #2 is now in the GA pines.

This a nice thing to get started. I have worked in the fire service for 13 years. Count me in for Indiana. Send me all the information. I have also started a bookmark list. When the caches are published send the information so I can get it on the list. Thank you to all from the public safety field for your caches and time. Stay safe. It will be a date that will never be forgotten.

I am going out today to start my averaging of coordinates, I will probably place it this weekend. I am also going to try to get 911 in my coordinates (probably in the minute degree).

@4America: I would recommend having a set description of the 9/11 cache series on every cache page along with the cache description. Also instead of a table to show all the caches just have a link on every cache page to a list of all the other caches. Take a look at the Cache Across America Caches for some ideas... http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...d5-5f27404fde7a . These are just suggestions I thought would make the 9/11 caches better, choose to ignore them if you want.

Tough week this one. Grateful to have gotten through it. One of the lucky ones to survive that day. For sanity we have moved on. Would be glad to honor my friends and remember all from that day by placing one in SD. Count us in. Thanks for doing this.

Nice to see more coming.

Shall we develop some consistent text for the description? This topic seems to be a better one to do that in.
