A Monument to the "Smiley" Family

Recommended Posts

Check out the benchmark that is part of the Monument to the "Smiley" Family :D

LY2422 is the PID and several cachers have logged it with some great pictures...

I just thought this one was rather appropriate since our people are getting "Smileys" for logging it. :D

So, does anyone else know of a humorous mark that they wish to share? I liked it when we started one thread with some of the funny names of the marks...have you found any with interesting names?

Shirley~

I think that my favorite found name is KU2138. I guess I haven't studied enough logic to understand why. Maybe, it's a truth table?

Then again, I have also found KV4908. Though there seems to be enough of that itn the world already.

..looked thru my logs & most of the names were pretty ordinary - did make a special effort to pull over along I-95 (not too smart) to grab this one - JV6938 ...as it was named in honor of the mall (White Marsh) that my wife was making me drive to after a visit to Baltimore's Inner Harbor...

We made a half-hearted atempt at KV4051 but it is on land owned by an oil company, and fenced off.

With the risk of being risqué, KU0827 appears to have been destroyed to make way for a parking lot.

Ya, know. I always thought HJ0362 would be, with a severe nasty storm quickly approaching.. But, I was able to make it through and see the rainbow on the other side.

Not to fear, tho.. There's always one more JM0409. (Haven't found it yet, but.. I will eventually! :anitongue:)

Me.

I like this one: AE4371 - "Alien"

Don't you wonder what the surveyors were thinking when they name these?

I've wondered how this monument got it's name, but I'm sure there's a story behind it.

DOG

Too bad it's unstamped. LOL!

Most of the "named" PID's are for the property owners where the stations sit. The others are for the area where they are located.

Springer

Named for Isabelle Springer, the land owner.

ROAR

This one I have no clue on how they named it?

George

I have no clue why its named George, its in the middle of nowhere.

I have run across a few named after the landowner, and was pleasantly surprised to have Mr Trump . My favorite local name is OYES, named, I think, in opposite reference to the nearby town of Ono and its (now defunct and gone) O'Yes Restaurant. Perhaps the survey team ate there while they occupied the mark and, since there was already and ONO mark, named this one OYES as a humorous sidebar.

I have to wonder what the girl who lived near this one said to the surveyors:

VIXEN

I bet this guy would have liked to be located near the one above

BATCHELOR

How bad do you have to be, before they send you below the surface

BELCHER UNDERGROUND

Sometimes, it sure pays to be this when benchmark hunting

LUCKY

Here is a couple that I did not find.

I wonder if the surveyor will ever know the appropriateness of the name he gave this station.

RD1682

I wanted this one bolt so bad that Malnut and I hiked for twelve miles (round trip) to hunt it, only to return joyless.

Well in this GF0859 I could not have found a better one.

Since I was there today to recover the Azimuth Mark.

We did run across one GF0872 near GF0871.

Or you could get your Kicks on Rt. 66 but don't forget GF0842 maybe Flagstaff Arizona,Barstow....

Or maybe someday I will get a GF0840.

With over 1000+ I could make up just about any story.

surveyor job opening photo humor.

I couldn't find the original, but there's numerous sites....

On any web search engine, put

Surveyor "Must be fast on your feet"

in the search window and click Search
