Benchmarking on hold...*grr*

We usually don't have grumble topics, but I'll start one up.

Well, my car (98 Mazda Protege sedan) has been wonky all summer, overheating. It killed its engine overheating this spring, and I thought I would give it one last shot, but I (and mechanic) couldn't find the problem. I haven't been willing to go very far from home with it, thus I haven't really been benchmarking for 5 months or so.

Now, the engine finally died as I started commuting down to Soccorro, NM for a fellowship. Bloody, stupid car. And it happened just before Labor Day weekend. Now I have to spend my time shopping for a car. *sigh* Trying to decide between a commuting car (Toyota Corolla sedan, 41 mpg highway minimum) or a wagon (Suburu Outback, 30 mpg highway, more space, roofrack, all wheel drive, etc., a little more expensive).

Ok - I'll add one (other than the wife who threatens bodily harm if I do one more pullover on a shopping trip). I headed out to do a tri-station after work "up in the mountains" but right off the road...went in about 6 miles in on an unpaved road in a small valley between 2 mountains - o.k no problem so far. I found the side road to head up the mountain (gated but open)..looked a little rough, but doable. So I zig zagged around small rocks in the road at about 1 mph (with thoughts of returning to find the gate locked in my head) & made it up 2 switchbacks...until about a 1/2 mi from the summit & the station where I find a ridge of rocks across the road projecting about 2 feet. So about this time I find myself saying (out loud)(alone) "Im not doin' this!" and begin backing my Mitsbishi Mirage sedan down the mountain...no place to turn around until the bottom switchback. I get home at 8:30 pm w/ absolutely nothing to show for it but a sore neck & a car that now looks like it should've been a Jeep commercial!

Well as you can tell my grrrr**** has been on for quite a while.

Beings on a fixed income and raising 2 more grand daughters has played it's toll.

But as(if) :) you notice I have been finding a few lately....gas prices have lowered :P somewhat and I can afford to get out and not find :P those little things again.

I went to one this week that was one of the Old Stones ..XCVIII.

Well it is now gone. The owner of the property has moved it to his daughters house.

It was reported in poor shape already.

I found it 2 years ago on its side and north of listed coords.

It was below zero that Feb. day and hot as hades this time.

I still only place a note I just can't say destryooooed.

I did find out that the original location it was is at the NE corner of the barn that now sits there.

The same owner removed it to replace the barn corner.

He has owned the property since 1946.

Then it had been so long since local benchmarking I got within a couple of miles of 3 that I had forgot to load back in the GPS after vacation.Darn..........3 close ones.

But that was also the same days I did my EDM tests so the finds over rule the 4 not found. They also were made up for by the fact I can brag on my GPS's a little more and warrant the expense to the wife.Yeah right she says.

If you do one more benchmark I am jumping out. :)

Well I got it off my chest now so I feel like I better fill up on grssssssssss****again.
