+sTeamTraen Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Today I found Tante G´s Rüschenschürze, which took me to this interesting feature. ("Rüschenschürze" is German for "frilly apron"). This feature was built in the last years of the 18th century, and given its subject matter, I'm quite surprised it survived the 1933-1945 period. Anyone else have any cool but little-known cache sites which make good aerial photos ? Quote
TinyMoon & The Pumpkin King Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 But what is it? I tried translating the cache page usning AltaVista's Babel Fish feature, but still couldn't figure out what just what the heck the thing is. Quote

+SweetBell Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 In Indiana in Bendix Woods County Park the word STUDEBAKER was spelled out of trees years ago. Most of it can still be seen on Google Earth. I am not sure how to do the links so everyone can see, but I believe you can search for Conifer Cache, it is in the same park Quote
+Kabuthunk Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 Gotcha covered SweetBell: Cool. Had to rotate it sideways, but you get the point Quote

Well, sure.. but Studebaker? (Edit: did some research. The Studebaker company themselves did this in the 1960's or so. I guess this was where their head office was at or something. At the time it was considered the world's largest living sign.) In this age of satellite photography and Google Earth, I am wondering how long it will be before businesses paint logos or ads on their rooftops. When you look at your local Wal Mart or Home Depot from space, all you see is a big white rectangle. But a bit of orange or blue paint, and ... Edited September 7, 2006 by GreyingJay Quote
+SweetBell Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Studebakers were actually made in South Bend IN. The plant was about 20 miles east of these trees. The trees were planted at the headquarters and proving grounds. Of course Studebakers are not made any more, but area still has a test track for testing new vehicles and some proto types of cars and trucks. Thanks for posting the pic for me. I will have to learn how to do that. Quote
+Bundyrumandcoke Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 There is "Marree Man" in outback South Australia, 4Km (2.4 mile) high, and 28km (16.8mile) around the circumference. http://www.alien-ufos.com/mysteriesmareeman.shtml Cheers David Quote

Anyone have any luck finding those? They are between Nazca and Pampas Peru. A plane flying over the Lines: An animal of some sort: The condor, wings out to the left and right, tail towards the top Hummingbird, long beak pointing up: Parrot, circular beak is to the left: Hands, fingers pointing down and left: I darkened some of these up so the lines are easier to see. Jamie A friend of mine from NZ tells me that is Mt. Taranaki, a dormant volcano. The circle is a natural result of the volcano's own solidified ash. Quote
GermanSailor Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 But what is it? I tried translating the cache page usning AltaVista's Babel Fish feature, but still couldn't figure out what just what the heck the thing is. The Place is a "Schanze", probably dating from the late 18 century. "Schanze" is a German word for a sconce or a fort which is part of a fortress. This is the reason why it is shape d like a Star of David. If someone tries to attack one wall the attacker can be counterattacked from that and at least on other wall. There are lots of forts like this in the US. (Fort Morgan, south of Mobile, AL) GermanSailor Quote
