+Team_Tanner Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 Have just been reading the pinned GPS topic, and it got me thinking (for once!) As well as the GPS, what do all you other kind cacher type people carry round with you - either to every single cache or maybe in the car/bike/boat/hovercraft just in case? Also, what would be included in your ideal kit if money/opportunity were no object? (I'm tempted to say a helicopter, but maybe that would bring the caching process to too many peoples' attention? ). (apologies if this has been done before by the way...did look) Quote
+HazelS Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 hmmm /me looks in the rucksack.... GPS, Palm, TomTom, notepad, pens, spare film cannisters, spare micro log books, extra strong mints (?) wet wipes, anti bacterial hand gel, tissues, gloves, phone, spare socks. Then there's all the stuff I leave int he car, like 1st aid kit, spare trousers, waterproofs etc etc etc.... blah blah blah Quote
+MartyBartfast Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 It's sort of been covered before in http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=133208 But for the record the essentials are an old fashioned (read paper) OS map, a compass, a trekking pole & a hat. Sometimes take small binoculars, camera, penknife & bag of swaps. I can live without everything else. Quote
+Tiger-Eyes Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 I tend to travel ilght and take spare rechargeables , spare normall AA's (in case i've forgotten to charge the rechargeables Any TB's that need movingvand my walking pole (Handy for whacking the nettles). I only take swaps if I have the children with me Quote
+The Mighty Shark Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 A permanent fixture in my caching bag and a must for everyone I think. A pair of welding gloves. They are real thick and long enough to cover past my wrists and stop almost all thorns, brambles etc. Quote
+t.a.folk Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Other than gps. it's just cache printout ,spare batterries, map, compass, pens&pencils , few swops ,maybe spare log book bags , drink and a walking stick . (never known a container in a gorse bush that a walking stick couldn't get out and then recover after pushing back in place ) Drink ,food and extra clothes depending on circumstances. Quote
+AB&MB Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 Son......for grovelling around in hedge bottoms and checking out the muddy bits!! Quote
+The Bolas Heathens Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 GPS, Palm, The Bolas Heathens stamp, camera, bluetooth GPS for using with my Palm, Isaac, spare AA batteries. In the car we have our TomTom, lots of water, old Yellow eTrex as a backup along with various lighter socket recharging cables for Palm, TomTom etc etc. A helicopter would be handy for some caches although we'd like to perhaps have mountain bikes in the car for canal side type caches for example. +JustAlan Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 I know it's a bit sad and out of fashion these days, but rather than a rucksack, I've carry it all in a large bum bag I won in a Lowe Alpine competition a few years ago. I'd like to point out at this stage that it's a large bag, and not a bag for a large bum! (am I allowed to say bum on the forum?) Quote

I'd like to point out at this stage that it's a large bag, and not a bag for a large bum! (am I allowed to say bum on the forum?) It may be out of fashion, but I just bought one and its great! In it I can fit the GPS, Palm, a couple of pens, spare batteries, penknife, mints, my cigs and a lighter, wallet, mobile, car keys. It has two pouches for water bottles, and I have the camera fixed to the belt as well! All in all, everything I need in one handy place, and I can get to it all without taking it off! Oh, and I've yet to properly fill it... Maybe next year I'll fix a few more puches to it and go backpacking with it! Quote
