BornAdventures Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 Hi All! Ive been trying to convince the Rand Athletics Club Orienteers to help us in organising a Geocache race in the next few months. Some of the orienteers need a little more convincing, so I thought that maybe it would help if some of us show our faces at there next event it might help speed things along. The next event is next Sunday (3rd September) at Stirrup Glen, & there will be experienced orienteers to help out everyone. For more info about the Event go to http://www.racorienteers.co.za/pdf/06Stirrup%20Glen.pdf & if you have no idea what orienteering is click on the 'about orienteering' link at the top of that page. Hope to see some Cachers there Daniel from TGF Quote
QFC Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 I know I would love to join you guys, orienteering is so much fun, but it's a pity that it's always on a Sunday morning . If it was a Saturday or even later on Sunday it would suite me fine, but I'm guessing Sunday mornings is the best time for most orienteerers. I still like the idea of doing a racing cache event thing, you must let us know if you are still thinking about doing that. Part 3 of QFC. Quote
BornAdventures Posted August 29, 2006 Author Posted August 29, 2006 Its not that early. You will be able to start anytime between 8 and 10. We need to get some geocachers there to show the orienteering club that there would be interest if they do help us organise a geocache race. If anyone is worried that they might not be able to read a map, they can team up with me for the race. Hope to see some cachers there! Quote
Ysbeer Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 Hi Guys. I'd love to join. It sound like a lot of fun, but i'm a sunday school teacher, so my sunday morings is aleady busy. Best regards, Ysbeer Quote
Matata Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 Hi guys Check out this Eventscache: GCWF1G "GeoTeering the Race" it's what we came up with when fusing Geocaching with Orienteering. The idea is simply to replace the cachs with orienteering punches which are potted all over the landscape some far some near. the main aim is Fun and skill more then speed and "the winner is...". so if you are in the area join us, we even have a geocacher guest couple coming from Belgium!
