+Cougar21 Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 How far away is the closest cache to your home coordinates. (not placed by yourself incase you have put one on your front door) Mine is 0.2 miles or 360m Quote
+Seasider Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 Beats me but I do have one within a mile.... this one is 0.994 of a mile according to my gadget. Cheers! Seasider Quote
+The Forester Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 3,120 metres exactly, but who's counting?! Quote
+The Blorenges Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 2.5 miles for us. (Thanks to stonefisk ) Quote
+Skate and Jane Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 We have six within one mile, the nearest being .2 of a mile Quote
Nediam Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 The nearest cache to me is 1.9 miles away. However, the interesting thing is that the next nearest cache, which is 2.5 miles away, was the very first cache I did just over 2 years ago. Nice to see it's still going strong, but slightly surprised that there has been only one cache been placed closer in the 2 years and 3 days that I've been caching . Quote
+rutson Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 From the place where I pay the mortgage, the nearest active cache that's not mine is 1.14 miles. Right now, 48.67 miles Quote
+Cougar21 Posted August 26, 2006 Author Posted August 26, 2006 We have six within one mile, the nearest being .2 of a mile Yeah I have 11 within a mile.. and another 4 showing exactly at a mile. Mostly thanks to rodz! Quote
+Bill D (wwh) Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 1.4 miles is the nearest that doesn't belong to me. I own two closer than that. Quote
+Donmoore Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 Mine are 1 at .9 and the next 1mile after that the closest is around 5miles. Quote
Master Mariner Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 My nearest is 620m and second nearest is 740m. I have a clear line of sight to the second but to get there would involve a 5km drive at best and 15km drive at worst. Reason: The Thames is in the way! Quote
+Family Hodge Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 We live in DY2 and nearest is 341ft by Lollybob and 0.5 by FLG both nice Caches worth a visit. Quote
+Jaz666 Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 2.35 miles, there is one closer but it is the fake coords to a puzzle, with the cache being 10 miles away. Quote
+scooby scrappy and mp Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 1 mile away for me to the nearest cache Michelle Quote

+mongoose39uk Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 Nearest not placed by myself or my daughter is 4 miles Motorway Madness M62 junction 19. Twenty some caches placed by either myself or my daugher between zero feet and that one though. Quote
+bhodisatva Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 0.7 of a mile to the nearest one of A N Other cacher, but that's only because i beat Currykev to placing two in my local park @ 0.1miles from my house Quote
+Get of Fenris Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 1.6 miles for me - but then Coventry has only just really started to blossom in Geocaching terms. I'm off to find GCVQ02 in the morning. Wish me luck! Quote
+Tiger-Eyes Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 4.7 miles is my closest and I only have anothe 4 within the 10 mile radius But I am starting to place caches myself so the area will get better (for others) soon . Quote
The Washers UK Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 2.2 miles Snerdbe's Wrottersley park. our own caches start at .9miles. Quote
+Kitty Hawk Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 1 mile exactly 5 in the 1.1 - 2 mile range + 6 more in the 2.1 - 3 mile range I thought it was densely covered here until I read the above posts! Quote
+currykev Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 0.7 of a mile to the nearest one of A N Other cacher, but that's only because i beat Currykev to placing two in my local park @ 0.1miles from my house What a coincidence..my nearest is also 0.7kms ...Thanks bhodisatva! Quote
+Learned Gerbil Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 The clostest to where I work is 348 feet, but that is one of mine. The next closest which I don't own is 0.2m, as is the one after that, the one after that and the next two after that! After five at 0.2 there are three at 0.3 etc etc - total, 37 within one mile. +HazelS Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 0.9 for me, and that's one of my own.... however, one that's not one of mine... hmmm that's 0.9 too!!! Quote
Deego Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 It was 1/2 a mile and was still beaten to the FTF by aRRKS who live 15 miles plus away , oh the SHAME Quote
+*mouse* Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 960 metres away from my front door to find one that isn't mine! Quote
alistair_uk Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 960 metres away from my front door to find one that isn't mine! 0.1 miles, and that's not mine either. Rather unsurprisingly I was first to find. :-) Quote
+Alibags Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 How far away is the closest cache to your home coordinates. (not placed by yourself incase you have put one on your front door) How about on your own front door, but not placed by yourself? The cacher in question has put my name on the cache though, so I can never find it and log it to get it off my nearest unfound list However, I just checked and AARGH!!! what's THIS?!! Some so and so from out of town has placed a cache yesterday some 0.3 miles from my house, I hadn't noticed and somebody else from out of town has FTFd it already. Unleash the hounds!.... Quote
alistair_uk Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 How about on your own front door, but not placed by yourself? The cacher in question has put my name on the cache though, so I can never find it and log it to get it off my nearest unfound list If you can sign the log why can't you log it? Okay, I probably would have the same moral problem with it, but how does this differ from someone in a group of caches finding the cache and the rest of us signing it. Quote
Moss Trooper Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Many Moons ago when I would avidly watch for a new cache in the locality (between Humber and Tweed I spotted one thats seemed close. Poked the co-ords into my trusty Garmin 12 and sat on step to let gps find sats, settle and let me know how far it was.. I think it worked out at 12 feet!!! JasonW and Monz decided to plant a cache next to my wheely bin as a bit of a joke, the toe rags.. If some one wants to work it out these are the co-ords N 54° 58.040 W 001° 29.176 Cache GCE20 N 54° 58.037 W 001° 29.178 Home Co-ords Quote
+BikerKats Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 0.8 of a mile from our home co-ordinates, although we have placed some nearer. The next nearest that isn't ours is 1.4 miles away. If we use our postcode instead of the home co-ordinates, the nearest that isn't ours is 1 mile away and the next nearest that isn't ours is 1.2 miles away. These are two different caches from the nearest to our home co-ordinates, which then become 1.7 and 2.4 miles away. Quite a discrepancy. Quote

The Red Kite Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 How far away is the closest cache to your home coordinates. (not placed by yourself incase you have put one on your front door) Mine is 0.2 miles or 360m Being thin on the ground, as they are around these parts, my nearest is about 19 miles (Thanks Sadie's Mob!). I am hoping to remedy this situation in the not-too-distant future. Having said that there are some beautiful places to be discovered by travelling further afield. All I need now is some wheels Quote
+The Bolas Heathens Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 1 mile for us. If we can count our own caches then 469 feet (it's at the top of our garden). Quote
+Bear and Ragged Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 0.6 from home. Wasn't our first "official" find, that was 3.3 miles from home. However... the 0.6 was our "first find" to see if we liked this Geocaching lark. Quote
