Koneko is visiting from Massachusetts and zoltig and I took her out for an adventure on a difficult off road trail last Sunday. We went up Spring Creek where we had gone for the off road event. We returned down Saxon Mountain.

I wann go play!

You may think other wise when you see the next set of pictures coming soon.

What zoltig is referring to is our "adventure" we had yesterday on Winding Stairs Trail. Fortunately we both lived to tell the tale which you can read on my two part log here.

Unfortunately there are no pictures of the near flip, but here are some great shots we did mange to get.

Much of the downhill portion of the trail looks like this:

Folks. You want a picture? Imagine this:

a36d5592-6cab-4ba0-a750-1a1ce5580fc0.jpg

This is just before the, ummm, potential mishap.

Now for the mental part of this picture.

I am standing below RM's Roob in an area that I thought was safe.

We are having some discussion on the next steps to manouver through the "spillway"

"Turn the wheel a little this way"

All of a sudden, I see several pictures all at once.

The back end of RM's Jeep rising up and up.

The front sliding down and more of the back rising.

The look on RM's face with the words "Oh $h*7" clearly formed.

The Roob is still coming over.

RM (he sez luck. I think skill) released the brake and gave a bit of gas bringing the jeep off the steeper incline and to rest down below in an upright position.

I only wish I had it on video but right now it is only playing in my mind on a continous loop. Over and over...

What do you do when you want to cook the Christmas Turkey on the Webber, but it's snowing hard outside?

Note abundant 50 cal ammo cans awaiting more off road series next summer.

Dave, you might turn yourself into a real "RocketMan" cooking that close to all that ammo!

The snow didn't stop us from finding a few caches today after Santa left. Oh, BTW what time should we show up for dinner? :D

The turkey cooked on Webber in the garage turned out perfect. This time, unlike when I cooked the turkey on Thanksgiving, I didn't send Mrs. RocketMan to the store to get the mesquite charcoal. She got briquettes with mesquite, not real mesquite charcoal. I made sure I had the right stuff this time and it came out really good.

Sorry Eric, you are an hour late for dinner but maybe next time. :santa:

Wanting to get our off road fix in the dead of winter, n0wae (our guide), zoltig, JeepDC and I headed up to the hills yesterday hoping to do the Switzerland Trail. Unfortunately we found that both approaches to the Switzerland Trail were too deep in snow to be passable. n0wae got stuck about 100 feet in on the second approach, but he managed to get out which was a bummer for me because I wanted to try winching him. :)

Anyhow, we did manage to drive about two miles on another trail, Bunce School Road, before our guide n0wae couldn't make it up a big hill in the snow. It was cold (really cold) up there, but we had a blast driving in the snow. JeepDC placed this cache to commemorate the adventure.

I had such a blast doing some mid-winter caching in the Pawnee Grasslands yesterday, I thought I would share.

I did 4 caches. The first 3 winter friendly and the the fourth one was just fantastic to find. Not only was it buried in snow and I found it, but just the solitude of the area made it perfect.

The first and second WF caches are Out & About and Meet Steve

The third cache was 2007 "BC"

Little Rock, Arkansas. No Colorado by FaroutFarms was the fourth and final cache for the day. The dogs had a blast running about and enjoying the open area with the snow and rocks.

The temperature was a balmy mid thirties with a slight breeze. Super sunny and bright with clear skies which made for some great satellite reception.

O.k. Dave, name the three babes and be careful, no mistakes.

Hum? I recognize the one in the front of the pack, but my eyes are not good enough to make out the other two (or at least the is my excuse).

Love the Photoshop job BTW.

Oboy are you in trouble, you've met them all and can't recall their names nor handles.

I'll be your pal and not mention this to anybody, honest I won't.

There are way too many threads about San Diego and none of them are about how inept the Chargers are at reaching the Super Bowl.

Thought that was worth a bump

The San Diego teams seem have a way of getting your hopes up and then letting you down in the end. It's been that way as long as I can remember.

What's the right sport? What's the right sport! Why, there's only one sport whose energy, skill, capacity to injure the player, and yes, sheer aggression complement Geocaching perfectly.

What sport, indeed!

Besides, we got a wicked good team here. Whose players could beat the Chargers any day of the week. Like Batman!

zoltig and I attempted to do some wheeling in the mountains today. First we managed to make it up the lower end of Pole Hill Road and placed this cache. Then we headed up to Estes Park and attempted to do the upper portion of Pole Hill Road. Conditions were amazingly good and we were able to do most of the upper trail. We were only defeated on one steep snow covered hill. It was an awesome day.
