Congratulations

Why don't people post more congratulations threads on the very handy and not so far up the page congratulaions section of the forum.

Now i'm not one to normally nag and moan but me being quite new to this game and not really having anyone i know who caches and views the forum think its really is an abuse of the main UK page to fill it with congratultions when it is handy to post your congrats elsewhere.

I recently got involved with the whole off topic threads debate and it was decided by Lactodorum to close all these threads.

So i would like if all the congratulions threads where confined to the UK area but in the relevant area.

Come on Golem don't sit back and watch get involved!

I need more friends on here!

You're flogging a dead horse mate  - I started a thread about this a few months ago and there was a vote - the majority of people were in favour of congratulations threads. We're stuck with them I'm afraid...

No thats a defeatis attutitude if churchill had of thought like that we would all be speaking german now and this would be the german forum.

nine nine nine i tell you nine!!!

Defeatis or not, this has been flogged more than a dead donkey. I must admit it's easy to not realise it's been mentioned before, as it must be more than a month since the last uprising of ban the congrats thread was done. Now that is a record and should be congratulated.

Well done all those that want to ban the congrats threads!!

Its not a matter of if you don't like them don't read them... but even that is quite hard. yes we don't have to read the content of them but we have to scroll through the majority of them obviously reading the topic each time before we can find something that is of possible interest.

I did not say ban congrats threads but i want them kept to the congrats threads section....now is that so much to ask for?

Congratulation threads are boring and people who post them...

OK.

Once again I am going to be very dull and say.

In forums not everyonr is going to want to read everything, therefore you are never going to please everybody. It saddens me to see that people feel they need to take the time to whinge aboput these matters. Can you not find something more productive to do with your time?

Either way it bothers me not

With all the irritating things we have to do on a day to day basis, I really do think that scrolling down through the forum past threads that we are not interested in is really rather insignificant. Winging threads can be equally irritating.

so what your saying is you believe it is fair to clutter up i reckon around half the Uk forum with congrats. what is the problem with putting them in their rightful place? is that too much to ask?

If you use firefox there is an excellent greasemonkey script that puts a little cross next to each topic.

Clicking on the cross makes the topic disappear.

Hey presto , no congrats thread or if it annoys you.

I have used it to get rid of the pinned congrats thread and others that i don,t wish to see.

That's true, but we can't all load FireFox on a locked down desktop at work. As for accessing the forum on a PDA, it becomes a pain in the 4$$ scrolling past all the congrats threads.

But shouldn't you be working and not viewing these forums then ?:rolleyes::ph34r:

Can you point me to the rightful place please? In case you direct me to the pinned topic, that was actually a trial and it has never been deleted.

A trial I may add to keep the ban the congrat thread people happy, but it has never really took off.

So the rightful place as far as I am concerned is the main forum.

This is an old old old old old old old old old old old old topic, please give it a rest? Now is that too much to ask??

99% of employees who view forums on their works browsers are breaking the companies rules. A lot of companies view it as sackable. if your employer is happy for you to read forums rather than work, then you should be thankful you can view the forums at all!

I can see the case for bandwidth concerns when accessing on a PDA, but I've just counted how much a typical thread entry takes up on the main forum page - just 1600 bytes.

In contrast my browser fetches 150,000 bytes when displaying the UK forum index.

That's 1.06% - even on a 24k dialup modem that really isn't much.

I don't read all the threads on this forum, I just click the ones that look of interest to me, and I can't understand why some people can't seem to grasp this, and feel they have to complain about threads that can really make someone's day.

If it doesn't look like the thread is going to interest you, don't click on it, and don't start another thread complaining about it, simple!

Absolute garbage, all employers who allow access to the INTERNET allow reasonable personal use in the employees own time.

Even if an employee views an acceptable site in company time, a one-off-transgression would never be a sackable offence, not in the UK anyway.

Even multiple abuse of the employers Internet access policy would only equate to serious misconduct which is not a sackable offence. You can only be summarily sacked for Gross misconduct and then only if the ACAS COP have been followed.

Viewing Porn sites will always be gross misconduct.

I tmight have been done before but does that not tell you something? perhaps there are a lot of people who don't want these threads.

Last week the quiz threads got closed down. perhaps a chage is in the air.

Now lets get rid of the congratultions from this area and put it elsewhere. Somewhere where all the people with low self esteem can gather.

While the thread is here I might as well have another moan...

I can understand congratulating a cacher that you may have met, but cutting and pasting the same message into 6 or 7 threads seems pointless and dare I say it - a bit provocative...

Edited to add: cue a load of comedians doing just that...

"Their rightful place" is not everyones opinion. That thread was pinned up as an experiment of sorts. Many people don't read it, or even notice it.

I think it is fair to clutter up the forum with anything geocaching related. If it was cluttered up with stupid threads about unrelated nonsense, I can see a point in complaining.

And you don't think that is somewhat personal?

(I had already removed my reply judging that is was inappropriate)

Mine was a lot more general in content and did not direct any personal insult towards anyone. somewhat more light hearted than yours.

As i am sure that your are in peak shape have a great personality and are a picture to look at i will retract mine.

I don't know about a dead horse, but when I started a similar thread last year I got threatened by a Geocacher. See this post for more info "Click Here"

I'm sorry but I did take offence to the 'low esteem' comment. I felt it was insulting to the many folks who have fun with this sport and have no problem with giving their fellow cachers a well deserved pat on the back when they achieve a milestone. You, by your comment, pre-judged them all and I was incensed by that.

Having said that, I do apologise for my response. It was personal and equally uncalled-for.

I apologise to any who have in anyway taking any sort of offence to anything ihave posted anything i say in here is totally tongue in cheek as i do not know any of you and would not pre judge as it is not in my nature.

Also in response to anyone who gets that angered by any topic in a forum of this sort i.e to the one who threatened moote.

Please don't post here or email me unless you want to meet up and discuss it and i'm not paying your fare to Northern Ireland.
