+QFC Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 (edited) New topic for the forum, since I don't feel like doing any actual work Tell us about your cache finds note book: We started a notebook when we were on about our 50th find or maybe even earlier, not too sure. But after endless amounts of scribbling on cache sheet printouts and loosing them after a few days, we decided that a nice little black book was in order. Since then we have tried keeping a good account of every find we make, date, time, what we took and what we left... also to keep track of all those tb numbers So just the other day, while finding the right notebook to write in, I was wondering how other cachers keep track of their finds. I know some people (team LOC to be specific) take great pride in writing down every detail in pretty pink colours... ok, but that is the female of the team ok... that's it for now... anyone else keep funky cool note books? or just scribble your finds on a piece of paper and try rely on your memory when it comes to logging those finds... which is another whole topic which I won't start yet Edited August 22, 2006 by QFC Quote
+vespax Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 (edited) I can usually remember in my head what caches I find if it is just a few in a day. If there are many, than I use the calender function in my gps to record which ones I find. Then log at home using that. As far as tb's are concerned, I take them home most of the time so there is a little metal tag that records the tracking number for me. I then move it another day. If needs be, I use a piece of paper in the car if I really feel like leaving it the same day. I am organized, I promise, but it is mostly in my head or on microchips rather than trees! +Team_Farmers Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 If it was a long day of caching, we just go through all the waypoints on our Garmin (cos we name them as we go along)... ... else if is a weekend of caching, we tend to log them through the WAP site while we drive to the next one Quote
+geocacher_coza Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 My notebook is the paperless version. I use my Garmin iQue 3600. All my notes is logged on my iQue. The program I use is Cachemate. It has a option that you can log you visit and download it later. It works fine for me.I find the paperless option works fine for me! Quote
+GlobalRat Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 I tried the QFC route but misplaced two little black notebooks. I’ve never been one for a diary or a PDA (Palm has 6 years of dust on it), so use the old cranium. If doing a caching weekend or big cache day I usually have a list of waypoints that I plan to do for the day and tick them off as I go and just make a brief note on a piece of paper if needs be regarding whether it was a find or DNF, some key words about the cache, where I dropped and picked up TB’s and the numbers if I’m not taking them home. My GPS also has a Geocache Found function, so if needs be I can track which caches I found for the day, but I’ve never had the need. Noddy convinced me to use the logging functionality in GSAK, so now I type up my logs at the end of the day when I get home in GSAK, and log on the net when I can, works quite nicely. FTF, or missing caches I usually log via WAP. Have found WAP to be a bit quirky sometimes, so always double check these logs when I get back to base. Quote
