+egami
Does the GPSMAP 60CSX have the SiRF III chip? Is there anywhere I can get a listing of what GPS devices have what technology? Thanks! Quote Link to comment
+own6volvos
It has it. Garmin lists on each GPs units product page a little "SiRF" logo with the units that have it. Quote Link to comment
+Fhantazm
Yes it does. And one of the best ways to tell is go to Garmin's website and do a comparison of the various models. You will see "highly sensitive GPS receiver" on the ones that have the SIRF III chipset. Does the GPSMAP 60CSX have the SiRF III chip? Is there anywhere I can get a listing of what GPS devices have what technology? Thanks! Quote Link to comment
+egami
Ok, I see from the other thread currently nearby that this device does...I guess now my only question is regarding any kind of online cross reference of devices and what chip technology they have. Quote Link to comment

Off the top of my head, and based on a tiny bit of research. No guarantee of completeness or accuracy. Sounds like part of the disclaimer on the maps I make. SiRF III Garmins - GPSmap 60Cx/CSx, 76Cx/CSx, Nuvi, and Edge. SiRF II - Some Lowrance models (not sure which) Magellans use homebrew receivers that work very well. Few complaints about the performance of Meridians and eXplorists. The Garmin models not mentioned above use a Garmin homebrew receiver. Your mileage may vary. Some people do just fine, some think they're not so great in the woods. The monochrome eTrex models would be at the bottom of the totem pole, followed by the color eTrexes (Legend C/Cx, Vista C/Cx, Venture Cx), then the non-SiRF GPS60/76, GPSmap 60/C/CS and GPSmap 76/C/CS. Not sure where the Gekos or Rinos would go. If someone else can come up with a better "ranking" of Garmin receivers, or a more complete list of receivers used, please do. Quote Link to comment
+Fhantazm
Actaully that was pretty dead on accurate! Good info! The only thing I have noticed is for some strange reason, the eTrex yellow does better than its other B/W bretheren. Not exactly sure why................. +Alan2
There are many Sirf III GPS's for connecting to Pocket PC and Palm type organizers. You can get more info on these at gpspassion.com Quote Link to comment
+apersson850
For Garmin, you have to add Forerunner 205/305 and the StreetPilot c5xx series to the list of units with SiRFstar III receivers. There's also the iQue M4 in that series. Quote Link to comment
