Would it not be cool if we could place a cache near every Presidential Home/ Library in the United States of America? Call it cache through the Mystery of U.S history or something? have a sires of caches with in each location captaining information and photos about each president! We could have the final cache near the white house in Washington D.C! I think lurning about the History behind every US President can be quit interesting and fun too, and If we had a cache system through history, it would also increase and motivate more people to "Cache across America" solving the 50 state multi cache. This would bring cache in to the light of history. We could bring History back to life Grounspeak, Geoching style! In other words this could be a complicated puzzle only solved by visiting all 42 Presidential caches, and the final one could lead up to Washington D.C! Do I have any volunteers are takers would like to place a cache around a presidential historical home. (Dont place it on the property unless you get explicit information first from the society that owns it, we have to be careful here when dealing with historical places, we can not place a cache on or too close to any of the home steds or other historical sights, it is the regulations) If this dream is to become a reality, I need all the help I can get!

I will take

20th. President James A Garfield In Mentor Ohio

25th. President William Mckinley In Canton Ohio

I still need 41 more........

I'm not sure a cache near the Whitehouse will fly, but other than that, I like this idea. It will take some work and coordination to pull it off though.

Grover Cleveland was born in NJ, not far from where I live. His birthplace is still there, so I could take Grover.

Ok, putting the final cache, next to the white house my not be such a good idea, how about putting it some where around the city, itself. dont where, but I think we will be able to find a spot. Thank you, for taking Grover Cleveland you can have him! I will let you know when you can start placing it. all we need to do is get this forum off the ground! So fare we sill need 39 more!

I like the idea of doing historical cache series. I'm a big fan of the "Cache Across America" series and this one sounds just as interesting (or more so, since most president were born in closer proximity to where I currently am thus enabling me with more access than the CAA series does :anicute: )

Here is a list of the states that Presidents were born in. I'm looking for a by city listing, I'll update if I find it. Good idea Earthy!!

IF this flies, I'll take Richard Nixon's birthplace, as that's the closest one to me.

If you want to get morbid, you could also do a Presidential burial site one as well. Those might be in different places, although Nixon's is in the same place.

Reagan's isn't however, being born in Illinois, but buried out here in California. I'm sure many are like that.

That way, there is some resemblance of each cache in the series, If some one wishes to find them all, then it is nice to have some likeness in each cache. Thats what makes it a "series" specifically a national series! It cool to have them all look the same, that way when some one finds it they know it is not just an ordinary cache.

John Adams's birthplace is 75 yards away from John Quincy Adams's birthplace, so you'd get a two'fer there.

Hay, CacheNcarryMA, just making sure are you intrested in placing One for John Adams and John Quincy Adams.

Actually, no. I like hiding caches, and the Quincy birthplace is about 25 miles from my house, but it's in a part of Massachusetts that I don't visit often. I'm sure one the esteemed Eastern Massachusetts cache hiders will see this thread and take the Adams segment of this series. Thanks.

That may be difficult to pull off. Each area where a president was born will have special characteristics. Some are very urban, while others are still quite rural. Rural areas could support larger caches. I wouldn't want to hinder someone from placing an ammo box cache. Consequently, you may create problems for urban area Presidential caches if you specify that each cache has to be a certain size and then there's no place to put it.

Here is an updated list on who has what president...

Franklin Pierce (1853-57) Hillsboro, New Hampshire

I'm game for placing a cache (or a multi) for Franklin Pierce. Why a multi? Well, like many Presidents, he has more than one "home"...

Birthplace, and Childhood Home.

(PS: The above links to the Raising Presidents locationless cache is a treasure-trove of information for where these caches might be placed...)

I'll take Andrew Johnson. I live in Raleigh, and work less than a mile from his birthplace. The city has grown up around the site. It will be difficult to hide anything but a micro within a mile of the location.

I suggest you review the Cache Across America series. By using a uniform cache page design they maintain the integrety of the series, while allowing for a variety of hides. There are many ways to define a series. The only common thread is that there needs to be a theme or common thread.

:dram: Hay, every one here is an updated list, on who has what president! we are do doing well! We only have 32 more to go!!!! So if you live by any of these presidents, and if we dont have some one to hide it, feel free to take it! :)

Thanks goes out to all our new hiders!!!!!

Thanks Solid-Rock-Seekers for taking Franklin Pierce! :)

Thanks JLTx2 for taking Jimmy Carter! :)

Thanks Webscouter for taking Truman! :P

Thanks Wimseyguy for taking Andrew Johnson! :)

News flash! we have our first cache placed! in Georgia by JLTx2  , for Jimmy Carter! That means we need to come up with a uniform cache, page (we should say a type of uniform style) on the internet just like "Cache across America". For example, each paige will have the same general facts, a picture, and some room at at the bottom so hider can place anything els he wants, also it leveas the dore open for creativity! Dont start hiding caches yet, until we are about down to 10 presidents left. Thank you

Last

When I talk about "Resemblance" I mean they have to look Presidential on the inside. They can be any size, because I understand, hiding a regular cache in down town New York City might be nearly impossible! If you want to place an ammo box then all means place and ammo box, but if all you can place is Micro that's cool too! Just as long as the inside of cache looks the same. what I mean by that is, decorate it a bit and put stares and stripes around the walls. Also it dose not matter what size of log book you have, as long as it has a picture, and interesting common facts about the president. **Important** But dont do that yet. we should have some one design A uniform log page, that way each log book has the same facts as from csche to cache.

Would any one like to step up to the plate? :)

Thank rogueleader for taking Woodrow Wilson! you can have him! In regards to your question, so far there is no deadline, we would like to get a few more volunteers before we start placing them. Also, have you seen the web pages for "cache across America?" They, all fallow the same format, I would like to do the same thing, just dot have the web designer yet. Know any one that might will willing to do such a task?

Wanted: One puzzle genius - Who wants to be responsible for creating the puzzle to go with this? What info needs to be placed in each cache etc.

Once we have the list of willing participants, you will need to be the one responsible for getting them the info they need to include in their cache and will be the mastermind behind creating the puzzle.

HELP WANTED - Is there a web designer out there that would be willing to put together a simple but elegant HTML template that we can use for the pages for each of these caches?

I want visitors to the pages to know what this is all about.

Are we doing birthplaces or museums? Eisenhower was born in Texas but his boyhood home/library/burial place is in Kansas.

I'm originally from Abilene, KS and still make it there frequently, so I can take Ike if that's where we want to put it. Not quite sure how I'm going to do it, tho, as there is a)A virtual on the grounds already and b)the house is in the middle of the Library/Museum grounds and there's no way they'd allow one there.

For bonus points, you could include the birthplace of Jefferson Davis - first (and only) President of the Confederate States of America.

http://parks.ky.gov/statehistoricsites/jd/index.htm

This is at Fairview, KY. He was born June 3, 1808, and died December 6 1889 in New Orleans, LA.

Actually, this might not be a bad idea. In addition you could also include caches for those who were in charge of the nation prior to George Washington. There were 14 Presidents of Congress between 1774 and 1789, who were essentially the head of state prior to George Washington:

- 1774 Peyton Randolph, Virginia

- 1774-75 Henry Middleton, South Carolina

- 1775 Peyton Randolph, Virginia

- 1775-1777 John Hancock, Masschusetts

- 1777-78 Henry Laurens, South Carolina

- 1778-79 John Jay, New York

- 1779-81 Samuel Huntington, Connecticut

- 1781 Thomas McKean, Delaware

- 1781-82 John Hanson, Maryland

- 1782-83 Elias Boudinot, New Jersey

- 1783-84 Thomas Mifflin, Pennsylvania

- 1784-85 Richard Henry Lee, Virginia

- 1785-1786 John Hancock, Massachusetts

- 1786-1787 Nathaniel Gorham, Massachusetts

- 1787-88 Arthur St. Clair, Pennsylvania

- 1788-1789 Cyrus Griffin, Virginia

Interesting project you all had going back in 2006. How did it end up? Did all the geocaches get

published anywhere? A bookmark list perhaps?

I started a few Presidential geocaches myself. Not so much their birthplace but visits to my local

area. I have Cleveland at the Indian River Hotel 1888, Warren Harding Oceanfront Lot in Cocoa

Beach and Teddy Roosevelt visits the Fountain of Youth in St. Augustine. The comments are always

good as geocachers like the history lesson.

I also have two Travel Bugs that are Presidential oriented. "Send President Harding Home" and "President

Cleveland Home" but I can't say they are doing that well on their trip home to their birthplaces.

But still I'd like to find the list for all these Presidential geocaches. Do anybody have them?

I'm sure there are probably lots of caches placed near the birth place of Presidents but are not part of any sort of series. The problem is, once one has been placed near a former presidents birthplace, one that is part of a series couldn't be placed their due to proximity issues. The closest presidential caches near me are at Fillmore State Park in Moravia, NY. There are several caches located in the park, including an Earth Cache but none are actually devoted to Millard Fillmore.

Although not a Presidential cache I replaced a muggled container that was located at the birthplace of Nelson Rockefeller a couple of years ago and it's still active: http://coord.info/GCQEKA
