Mpumalanga Spring Break

Recommended Posts

OK, it is official now.

We have booked KNP for 21 to 23 September and will now look at other accomodation around Graskop / Sabie for 24 to 27 September. Any suggestions on great B&Bs are welcome.

Any suggestions on nice eating venues around Graskop, Sabie, Pelgrims will also be appreciated.

I know of the German guy in Sabie with those amazing pancakes and then there was a place in Graskop that made the most delicious homemade bread when we had lunch there once. Don't know where this place is anymore or the name. Please let me have some suggestions. Obviously these must be along decent caching routes :P

I will give a bit more detail on my cache wishlist for the area once, final routes have been planned.

Oh yes, we are thinking of placing a few caches in the area (to show appreciation) and would then ask for MP cachers to look after these. I know Fish Eagle has already said they would be more than willing to look at the maintenance of these. Any others are more than welcome, then the load can be shared. Don't know where yet, but should have an idea by the end of the week.

Hi Warthog,

Great news that you'll be visiting our area soon - look forward to meeting you.:)

Accom - we don't know B&B's, but we sometimes stay over at Glass Bungalows (on the river in Sabie, tel 013-7642227). They are self-catering, with a good restuarant on the premises, and we found them comfortable and affordable.

Cache wishlist - there are many caches (about 180) in the lowveld, and quite a variety. Once you have your route finalised, let us know whether you want quantity or quality, the desired mix between urban and scenic caches, what level of phyisical challenge you like, and what vehicle, and we'll give you a proposal (we know every cache in the L/V except 4 new ones). Would suggest that you then call for comment on the proposed list from Cownchicken or Cache-fan, who have both visited most of the Lowveld caches.

And, if you want to do the extreme gorge hike, there are at least three lowvelders that want to do it again - we'd be glad to join you. :P

Hi Warthog,

I've mailed you about the accommodation, as for food, here's my recommendations;

Sabie - Smokey's (Make a darn nice mixed grill potjie, come hungry).

Sabie - Woodsman (Best Kleftiko, coming from a quart Greek).

Sabie - Wimpy (Wimpy always makes the best breakfast).

Graskop - Harrie's Pancakes (Still a classic).

Graskop - Potjie Pot (Smokey's best, this next best).

Pilgrims Rest - Scott's Cafe (Nice banana pancake, and their Karoo lamb pancake is also good).

I have them all listed on my GoogleEarth with corresponding GoogleEarth coordinates (Real life coords differ greatly to a bit), let me know if you want me to eMail them to you.

Cheers

M@X

Thanks Mad Max the Meerkat, Please send Co-ords of the places you mentioned.

I think we have agreed (Alida and myself) that it would be best to attact the MP caches out of Sabie. Hmmm, sounds like a war coming up, needs to go and fecth a few geocoins and TBS!!!

Will be in touch shortly regarding accomodation, but I think it is a definate.
