+NorthWes
If I remember correctly, If you were to order a coin of the same size in silver from the Alaska Mint, the 2005 silver coin cost less. Is that correct? If so, the 2005 and then the 2006 will be worth more than a standard silver coin. So it is valuable in and of itself. That is the way I look a it. Actually you're absolutely right. 24K gold-leafed on one troy ounce silver entry level 'art-quality' proof coins (with far less detail) run between $70 to $80 at the Alaska Mint - the intricately-detailed 2006 AK gold-leaf coin on silver is $50. In the collectible coin world you're about 40% ahead in value with this acquisition (which is why passerbys at the event here in Anchorage last night were buying - love at first sight, at a good value). The mint thinks GeocacheAlaska's a little odd for not pricing at 'market' levels ('market' meaning what the numismatic collectibles folks consider market value). But then, as Daddy Ladybugs and I used to say, 'we're clearly not normal'... Quote Link to comment

Here's a link to a retail page for The Alaska Mint with comparable silver and gold relief coins. This year's Alaska coins cost more because the base price of bronze and silver went up significantly, we bought tracking numbers and a custom icon from geocaching.com, and we had to pay extra for the custom tracking number engraving. +Ladybug Kids
Ooops...Northwes beat me to the post while I took a phone call. Darn work!!! The mint thinks GeocacheAlaska's a little odd for not pricing at 'market' levels ('market' meaning what the numismatic collectibles folks consider market value). Yeah, last year one of the owners told me that if I was her Apprentice, I'd be fired for how we price things. Big difference is that we're not trying to make a living at this...we want to put Alaskan made quality coins into cachers' hands all around the world and have enough just barely enough left over to cover the miscellaneous expenses that come with running a geo-organization like GeocacheAlaska! But then, as Daddy Ladybugs and I used to say, 'we're clearly not normal'... Gee, thanks for reminding me... ...be careful...always be careful about what you say to a reporter. At least my Corporate Communications group hasn't asked me to speak to the press since then . Edited September 9, 2006 by Ladybug Kids Quote Link to comment

+Ladybug Kids
I crashed the website for awhile this morning. It's back up and running. Sorry for any inconvenience. Quote Link to comment

+Ladybug Kids
Are these shipping right away? I dropped the first 70 or so envelops into the mailbox yesterday. I will package and ship as many coins as I can today in between Fall chores (the trees are golden, so the first snow is only two to six weeks away ). Work has me on the road all next week. Then, there will be an envelope stuffing party in Anchorage on Friday, September 15. I will try real hard to post a list of orders with shipping dates before I hit the road. Orders are being processed in the order they were received. Edited September 10, 2006 by Ladybug Kids Quote Link to comment

+Ladybug Kids
We added an option on the sales pages to buy the geopins in sets of four (two antique bronze, two antique silver) for $10. If you already ordered coins and/or pins, we'll refund the $1.50 packaging and handling fee, so you pay it only once. We'll also be issuing partial refunds to those who originally ordered four or more pins. Edited September 10, 2006 by Ladybug Kids Quote Link to comment
+Ladybug Kids
Okay, a bit off topic, but I can't let this go unchallenged . Leave me out of the clearly not normal...that is unless paying $30.00 + for an Arctic Airborne Geocoin is normal. Is it normal to leave some of Anchorage's best Italian food to get cold on your own kitchen counter and make one's wife wait for dinner in order to solve a puzzle and pursue a First to Find half way across town??? Orders are being processed in the order they were received. I was going to post a list of cacher name and date shipped, but not all cachers who ordered provided their caching name in the Note box. I could post by e-mail address instead, but that might raise privacy issues. Anyone have any "simple" idea around this? Quote Link to comment

+Band of Bradys
The wonderful 2006 Alaska coins arrived in West Michigan today I was so happy to get a silver and a bronze, especially after getting to geocache in Alaska this summer while in Valdez visiting my Dad. Excellent coins, and excellent service, they sure moved through the mail system fast! Valarie Band of Bradys Spring Lake Michigan Quote Link to comment
+NorthWes
Geocache Alaska coordinators are scheduled to package and mail Alaska geocoin and pin orders on Friday evening (the 15th of September). Materials are in place, and the Alaska Mint has a coin shipment ready for pickup on Friday... Check the order list here to see if your order is in place for fulfillment. Orders placed between now and Friday at 5pm Alaska time won't show on the order list due to travel logistics, but we'll do our absolute best to get those new orders included in the shipment going out on Friday evening the 15th! The order list will then be updated to reflect your order's current status. We're not going home until all orders in place are filled! (By the way, all dates shown on the order list page are for 2006...) Don't wait until it's too late to order your 2006 Alaska geocoins - the premium editions (gold and silver) are moving especially fast. Quote Link to comment
oakcoins
Got my coins today. The Silver and the Silver with Gold are AWESOME. Yes, they cost a little more but they are .999 Silver! Great Coins. Thanks! Quote Link to comment
+CT Trampers
Puchased two of the .999 silver and one of the .999 silver with gold- In my opinion, there are highest quality and nicest looking coins out there. Can't wait to get them! And, be on the lookout CT area cachers, I'll be putting one of the .999 silver ones as a FTF prize in one of our new caches. Quote Link to comment
