Kayaker120 Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 Should I have my WAAS enabled? I am new to geocaching, mainly used for kayaking. Kayker120 Quote

+alexrudd Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 It also drains batteries faster when trying to lock on. If I'm in an open area where it can pick up the special satellite or am placing a cache and need the most accurate coordinates, I turn it on. If not, I keep it off. Quote
+Markwell Posted August 5, 2006 Posted August 5, 2006 (edited) Back when WAAS was first becoming popular, we had a few people together up near alexrudd for a picnic. We had a target with some pretty good coords and played a game of "mark your zero point" CLICK TO ENLARGE The ones further from the marker were WAAS off. These same people would turn their WAAS on and their zero point would be within feet of the marker. Now, that's anecdotal, and it was up near O'Hare where there's plenty of WAAS and Differential stuff to boot, but hey - if it gets you closer - cool. But I do agree that once you reach the 30-40 foot proximity on your GPS, probably best to pocket it and look around. Edited August 5, 2006 by Markwell Quote
