rbrugman
Does anyone else have the problem that the 60csx takes a really long time to acquire a first fix when having been off for a few hours? Mine takes up to five minutes sometimes. I'm running software version 3.00 and chipset software version 2.70. When the unit has been on recently it fires right up, but having been off overnight, or even for a few hours is causing it to take a really long time. Robert Quote Link to comment
codeyellow
Funny you mentioned that, The UPS man just dropped mine off and I installed batteries and I swear I had 5-7 sats locked on in a matter of seconds--very, very fast. I updated the software right away too without a hitch, very nice unit Quote Link to comment
+Hynr
For me it sometimes takes a few minutes, rarely more than 5, but most of the time it is less than a minute. Just now I turned mine on after having it off for a few days and it found a signal within 50 seconds (indoors). I'm sure if I had bothered to get up off the couch and try it outdoors, it would have had a lock more quickly. Quote Link to comment
+CJOttawa
If you're in a different location and/or have poor reception (in a car, building, heavy tree cover) it takes longer to get a fix. Normally though, if mine's been off for 8 hours, and I've moved about 5 miles away, a lock, outdoors, only takes about 30 seconds. Quote Link to comment
+hitman757
mine normally locks on in a matter of seconds... Quote Link to comment
+GPSlug
Are you talking about time to track the first satellite taking that long or the first position fix? How long until it gets the first satellite? Quote Link to comment
rbrugman
It finds the satellites quite fast, but they blink for about three minutes before they start going solid. It takes about five minutes (or the entire duration of my bike trip to work) to lock enough satellites to actually get a fix. When I first got the unit it worked like a charm. After updating the the latest software it seems to take forever, although the problem with no tracking any sats is fixed. Robert Quote Link to comment
kb9nvh
When did you update your software? There was an update that really slowed down the acquisition. A later one fixed it. I'm sure you've got the latest from a few weeks ago since you said you updated but everyone should be sure to run webupdater whenever they have some issue. +Red90
Try a hard reset. Some people have reported that that fixed the problem. Quote Link to comment
rbrugman
I used webupdater to reinstall the software and also have tried a hard reset. Same problem (if it's even a problem). The GPS works great, it just doesn't lock any faster than my old 60C. Quote Link to comment
+weakfish
The first time is always the worst. Gotta take it slow and be gentle, otherwise you can make a mess of things, and raise some frustration levels if it doesn't work out and you have to 'reset' to phase 1. Quote Link to comment
