+summerandnana
If it will be in Feb, the 19th is a holiday making the 17th-19th a three day weekend. I must be in the wrong profession. What holiday is it? Presidents day, I would dare say you are right since you are not the president . Link to comment
+nielsenc
The problem of doing Vegas over a public holiday or valentines day/weekend, Vegas will be very crowded with others taking advantage of the extra time. I would rather pay $49/night than $200/night. Plus, flights are pretty full which means higher $$. just my 2 geocoins worth. Link to comment

+AtlantaGal
Moose Mob is the lead on this one, but there is a committee of about 6 of us of which I am a part of. There is a meeting with the LV convention people on 9/13 where the group will receive proposals from several hotels/casinos (mosty on the North end just off the main strip). The group will be reviewing those based on available dates, meeting space, buffet-style dinner and hotel accomidations (for those that don't have somewhere else they'd like to stay) & price offerings. Hopefully we can pick one shortly there after and get everything announced with event pages and such. Link to comment

+summerandnana
Is this only about coins? or is there mroe than to it than that? Well, we have a "Coin" group here and we get together every few weeks, we have withdrawals if we don't see each other. But coins is just a small part, it's about the 'extended' family and we talk all things Geocaching. Much fun. Link to comment
+Moose Mob
When a bunch of us got together awhile back and discussed if we would bid for GW4. We decided that GW4 was best left to the east coast, and we would consider having a regional event here. It never got off the ground because we couldn't find $39 rooms for 500 people in prime season at a 5 star hotel. (Gee, why not?) We came up with the name "Confluence of Cachers". Actually, I believe it was Rusty_TLC who came up with that one. After some thought, we felt it represented the confluence of more than just lat and long lines, it represented the diversity of the people. The different lifestyles, the different personalities and the different places. It gave us warm fuzzies. Remember, this event may have a certain focus towards geocoins, but it is more than that. Much more. edit: add focus and fix fat finger error Edited September 22, 2006 by Moose Mob Link to comment

+Mama Cache
I am curious what is going on with this? I have heard rumors about many dates. It also sounds like it maybe turning into the west coast version of GW. I guess I had thought it was going to be something a litte different from that and more specific and special to coiners? Eiher way, I would love to hear the plan thus far, so that I and others can determine if this is something they are even interested in anymore and if so, if they will be able to swing it. So PLEASE can you throw us bone here? Link to comment

It sounds like a completly different experience than originally thought, Sure. I guess different people had different thoughts. Some folks thought this event should be 100% geocoins, some thought it was only about the coin vendors, others (like me) assumed it was mostl geocoins. In other words, it has evolved into an event that is predominantly geocoins, but there will be some general geocaching and social activities as well. Geocoins is still the main focus. Let's say 80% - 90% focus on geocoins at this point. Link to comment

avroair
Yeah it pretty much went from a 100% coin event down to a large event with Geocoins on the side. +nicolo
Yeah it pretty much went from a 100% coin event down to a large event with Geocoins on the side. Different people had different agendas, the coin people wanted a coin event, the Moose Mob wants a west coast GW. I guess the goals were slightly different. I'm a little confused now. Originally, as avroair noted, this event was to be a weekend event with a focus on geocoins. Now I ready, from September 22nd : Remember, this event may have a certain focus towards geocoins, but it is more than that. Much more. That sound like things are starting to lean away from a geocoin focus, at least in my eyes. Now, Oct 10 : some general geocaching and social activities as well. Geocoins is still the main focus. Let's say 80% - 90% focus on geocoins at this point. Now closer to 100% geocoins but added activities ...? I'll be honest, I was excited when this thread popped up as I saw a smallish event with people that I was really looking forward to meeting : people with whom I have traded coins. A nice cost-effective weekend thing where we can have fun as geocoin-folk and, on our own or with an ad-hoc group, do some caching ... on the side, not necessarily as part of the event. It seems to be growing into something bigger ... and more costly? This sounds like it has expanded a bit if it may be held over around 5 days, like it's sounding. I mean, how much geocoin-related activities do we need to fill five days? What was wrong with the original plan? It sounds as of the original plan has been hijacked to build something bigger than what was intended? Is this true? If the plan is to make it a huge event, then it's no longer a geocoin event is it? Now, there's nothing wrong with a huge event ( although I'm not a fan of big crowds ) but that's not what this event was originally planned to be. Moose Mob, can you step forward and give us a rough idea of your ( or the committee's ) vision for this event. # of days, activities, etc.. I know that you've said 89-90% geocoin focus, but what is happening over five days ( if it is indeed a five day event ) if it's 89-90% geocoin-related? Thanks. Link to comment
+9Key
I know its not Vegas, but is there any interest in a geocoin event in the Dallas area in the spring? We could get a big conference hall at a hotel by the airport and block off some rooms. Event coin, tshirts, tables for vendors and traders, a quick and easy dinner, night cache runs. Maybe? +D3C1B3L
My understanding of the initial concept was that there was to be an event held for people with interests in geocoins... Period. It wasn't to be geared towards any certain facet of coins. That means that traders, manufacturers, vendors, *cough* poker players *cough*, et al were all welcomed to attend. This in and of itself doesn't dictate attendee size, span of days nor activities. However, I also understand that as with the MWGB and other well-run events, activities could and should be planned for those that need structure. So far, I'm not seeing any dictation from those that are running the show here. I guess I would expect to see people on this committee to step up and say "here's what will happen, here's what could happen and here's what won't happen". That way, those that can't play well with others can start there own thread and move along. I certainly don't envy the committee members at this point, as this thread seems to be bouncing around left and right. Of course, these are just my opinions... I could be wrong. Link to comment

+Kealia
Is there a reason that Vegas can't support two events? 1) Geocoin event (whatever the size) 2) Big event (possibly a mega event), or whatever other direction it takes on (Looks like my "Vegas Baby!" comment wasn't too far of track. +Hula Bum
Hmm, and maybe to cut cost for people the events could overlap by a day or go back to back and then people could have a 3 or 4 day eventing trip. Link to comment

I'm so money, I don't even realize it!) I planned on replying to a different comment, but I think yours is much more inline with what many of us are thinking. Why can't they both happen simultaneously? That is what we are looking at. Why can't we have geocoin vendors AND invite Garmin and Magellan. Heck Sissy-N-CR can setup a booth if they wanted to pay the space rent. Geocoin poker? yes, of course. Cache runs? We can accomodate that also. Geocoin swap sessions? Absolutely. Sit around and shoot the breeze with other cachers and/or coin enthusiast? Of course. It wouldn't be an event without it. However, At this point, we are not scheduling a CITO in congunction with this event. What's the holdup? Finding a weekend where all the rooms aren't $250 plus. I am having trouble getting below $130 for any springtime weekend. Some weekends here are so popular that prices are over $300 for a basic room. When it all comes together, everyone will find thier own rooms. We will provide some recommendations. I am just avoiding the high priced weekends. Meeting spaces are not easy to schedule either. The weather is too unpredicable for a meeting in the city park. (Feb avg high temp is 63, chance of rain 3 of 10 days). Other criteria? Access to the strip, good caching weather, suffecient space for a gathering and the vendors. The event is planned for one Saturday evening. Other affiliated activities will go on well before or after the main gathering. I hope this puts things into perspective. Edit: clarity Edited October 10, 2006 by Moose Mob Link to comment
