+Relic Hounds
I was thinking of hosting an event at our house. We live on a lake so I thought it would be nice for everyone to get together and go for a swim and talk caching. I figured people could bring lunch and we would provide snacks Does that sound like it would be a good idea? Quote Link to comment

+Groovy Cachin' Dude!
That sounds like it qualifies for an "event". Even the simplest gathering can be the most fun. All you need is food/drink, activity, and meeting other cachers from the area. It took us over a year to run into a cacher in the field...now we make it a point to attend as many events as we can. Since attending these low-key events/potlucks/river swims, we have completed geocache outings with others that have now become friends. In the beginning, it was just about finding the cache...learning about our GPSr and having the satisfaction of actually locating a cache. Then geocaching became about finding new and interesting places/vistas. It became somewhat boring to us just to log caches for the numbers. Now we try to add in the element of personal relationships with others. Geocachers are some of the nicest and most generous people you will ever meet. Who else would drive 12 miles up a gravel road to rescue you when your geo-mobile has broken down? Go for it! Everyone that shows up on your doorstep will thank you for hosting the event.
