Alternative Geo-forums?

Are there other geocaching forums (non-geographic specific) elsewhere? It sure would be nice to find one that isn't patrolled by an army of admins with nothing better to do than close threads and otherwise meddle in the online lives of others.

I tried to get help setting up a multi-cache yesterday and an admin decided to shut that down. I've seen things like that happen time and time again here. It's really getting tiresome. We need another place to hang out.

"We"?

And give us a link for the closed thread and lets see what the fuss is all about.

I think I found the thread, by looking through the forums for recently hidden threads. The OP was requesting assistance for a digital photography project. There was no mention of a multicache.

We have an off-topic forum where this request would be most welcome, provided that the project was not commercial in nature. Other photographers have had great success posting there. By posting in the correct forum, as recommended by the forum guidelines, you can avoid a lot of moderator interaction. I consider it a good day when I never need to login to my moderator account. It rarely happens.

I also remind the OP that the forum guidelines on respecting other posters apply to the moderators as well. We have a job to do. I *do* have better things to do, thankyouverymuch.

ooo! Groundspeak has an army of admins now??? :anitongue: do they get to wear uniforms and go on maneuvers one weekend a month? does the initiation include the phrase, "thank-you sir, may i have another?"

i wonder if there's a recruiting poster with a pic of signal the frog pointing that says, "we want YOU for the Groundspeak lackey army".

sounds cool!

how do i get to be an admin?

No. YOU need another place to hang out.

That's an agains the guidelines insult if I've ever seen one.

i see no insult in torry's post. the OP said "we". "we" don't need another place to hang out. he obviously isn't happy here so "he" does. nothing insulting there.

now, if he had called the OP a slack-jawed troglodyte with his knickers in a twist about not getting his way, that would be an insult, but no one has done that.

Well, I'm insulted by the 'We' statement. It's an direct effort to recruit cachers into his own army. Do you really want a world ruled by Seth? I mean where's the cool hand signal like Jeremy has?

Wait a minute, Hand signal - Signal the Frog. hmmmm

Well, that went nowhere quickly. I guess the answer is, no, there really is no other place where geocachers from all over can post freely. I (speaking only for myself) think that's too bad. It seems like, for $30 per year, I should be able to post in the forums from time to time without some [insult omitted] person deciding to delete my post. It's not like I--or most other folks who have their posts closed/deleted--are here to post porn, tell lies about our neighbors, sell Viagra, offer our wives for sale, and so forth. Most people who post are just trying to connect with the geocaching community and that should be allowed with pretty darn wide latitude. It aint hurtin' anybody! So, moderators, please consider backing off a bit and letting people (especially since many of us are paying customers!!) utilize these forums.

For the record, my post in question was simply an attempt to find a geocacher in Syracuse, New York who had a digital camera and could help me gather information to put together a multi-cache for a museum out there. I think that was a lot more innocuous than many of the trite and mean things that appeared in this thread.

I'm closing this thread since nobody was able to answer the original question. :)
