wesser Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 We're new to the geocaching scene, and are loving it! We've signed on as premium members, and I've created a couple queries for our destination, Black Hills of SD (hope they come thru in time).. This is all a last minute scramble but I hope to borrow a friend's Palm-type organizer tonight, and get the cache info loaded onto it somehow before we hit the road 7/23. I've gotten EasyGPS, found how to download waypoints to our GPSr, and have rec'd a querie by e-mail, but can someone tell me what to do to put a querie onto a "Palm" (I'm not sure yet even what brand/model it is...) Any pointers appreciated, I'm looking forward to caching in the Hills!! Thanks! Quote
Miragee Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 You can download and use GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife) for free for 21 days. From it, you can Export in the correct .pdb format for your Palm. I use Cachemate on my Palm M500. It is very easy to use and only costs $8.00 to register. Another program you can use on the Palm is Plucker. Here is a rudimentary GSAK tutorial that might help you get everything loaded in time. Quote
Mudfrog Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 Mobipocket is free and does a good job with handling the basics. No frills, no sorting, but it is very easy to use with the palm. Quote
Team Neos Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 (edited) Cachemate is good, I use it now. There is also Plucker and Spinner. They are free and relatively easy to figure out -- plus there is a step by step set of instructions here. Edited July 22, 2006 by Team Neos Quote
briansnat Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 I've tried Plucker/Spinner, Mobiocket and now I use Cachemate. Plucker/Spinner and Mobipocket are free. Mobipocket really stinks. Spinner/Plucker are OK but there are quite a few steps to get the data to your unit. I found myself not bothering to re-load my Palm because of that. Cachemate is only $8 and is a cinch to use. Just a few clicks of the mouse and you have the cache data on your palm in a nicely presented format. With any of these you're going to have to load sofware on the Palm. Since you're paying for Cachemate, no sense putting that on a unit that isn't yours. Your friend's unit may already have Mobipocket (its a relatively popular app) and in that case you're in business. If not, I recommend going the Plucker Spinner route and when you buy your ownl Palm, getting Cachemate. Quote
