+2ofHis Posted July 15, 2006 Posted July 15, 2006 (edited) With all due respect & reverence to and for our founding father, the world's first geocacher was none other than Simon Peter in the Bible. Read Mathew 17:25-27. He also found the world's first geo-coin! And he didn't even use a GPSr! Edited July 15, 2006 by 2ofHis

+Cardinal Red Posted July 15, 2006 Posted July 15, 2006 (edited) I had to look it up, but perhaps 2ofHis only wanted to relate a fishing story to us. And the previous Geocaching/Fishing thread survived. But I admit, this one is a bit more of a strech. And the "Geocaching" hint to Simon Peter was way too specific by the way. But this did remind me of a Geocacher (also without GPS) who mentioned catching a fish years ago near one of my hides. It was tagged with a prize amount that was used as a down payment on the house they still live in. edit: corrected name of "Geocacher". Thanks Mopar for bringing me back to this thread to "catch" that. Edited July 15, 2006 by Cardinal Red
+Mopar Posted July 15, 2006 Posted July 15, 2006 Well, if we are going to play this game................ A wise preacherman that I have the utmost respect for once told me: One of my favorite scriptures is Matthew 13:44, which reminds us, “The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.” It’s a passage upon which we who have experienced so much joy and just plain fun in finding boxes hidden in the woods have a special perspective. God is one of us. He’s a cacher. He enjoys search and discovery. When Jesus compares the kingdom of heaven to a box hidden in the field he’s not saying that God is keeping something from us, but rather that he wants to be found by us. He wants us to uncover the promises and hope he has for us. He wants us to trade up in our lives—to give him our struggles, our pains, the things that burden us and to take the prizes of peace, joy, forgiveness and ultimately salvation that he has hidden away for us.

Hipshot Hunter Posted July 15, 2006 Posted July 15, 2006 Well Peter may have been the first geo cacher in history, but I'm doing a puzzle and need to know what was the oldest cache listed on www.geocaching.com. ? Would appreciate anyone knowing the answer Thanks Hipshot Hunter
+Bill & Tammy Posted July 15, 2006 Posted July 15, 2006 It is also a little known fact that the two mites the widow dropped in the temple cache recorded in Mark 12:41 (also Luke 21:1) were actually trackable geocoins but the Pharisees being the selfish geocachers that they were neglected to log them with the scribes and kept them as "souveniers". Ok, I will stop now
+Inmountains Posted July 15, 2006 Posted July 15, 2006 The first motorcycle? When Joshua's Triumph was heard through out the land. The first car? When all the disciples where in one Accord. The first gun? The disciples found a farmer with a Colt...... The first computer? The serpent tempted Eve with an Apple............(well, some kind of fruit)

After thor, the Tooth Fairy also got into geocaching and was the first to use a ceocoin that travelled from locale to another. It's the truth. See TSR Dieties & Demigods 13:4-7, and Mother Goose 7:1-5. Edited July 15, 2006 by arpegio

+2ofHis Posted July 16, 2006 Author Posted July 16, 2006 Interesting feedbeack; thanks for your responses, friends. And I really liked the one tht told about the first motorcycle, car, gun and computer. I do hope this was all taken in the spirit of "devilish" fun and jocularity in which it was offered. Life can be too tense sometimes. Thanks again!

+Davispak Posted July 16, 2006 Posted July 16, 2006 Sorry, but you guys are off by over 1500 years. The first cache was placed by Pharo Ahmose in 1544 BC. It was a rather large cache with some seriously great SWAG! However as is the thing with most caches, the cache slowly deterioated and the swag got worse, but then it was muggled at some time later and was archived. The location was lost, and the placer of the cache just left it out there as Geolitter for about 2000 years, when it was found and cleaned up. Althought it violated the current rule of being underground, that rule did not go into effect until the early 90's, so it was ok then. This is the earliest recorded cache. I believe

Read Mathew 17:25-27. He also found the world's first geo-coin! And he didn't even use a GPSr! I'm really trying to see the connection. It sound more like a fishing story, or a finding money in a fish story... or... The oldest cache that I am personally aware of is this one, as told in an information plaque near the Sabbaday Falls trailhead in the Kancamagus highway in the white mountains of New Hampshire:

It's got me wondering how I could use a fish as a cache container. Perhaps if I could train it to surface and spit out a coin when someone sticks a 9 volt battery in the water...
