+stora Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 Hi After reading a few replies on the 'adopt a newbie' thread, I have toyed with the idea of an interactive map. I would like it to be a quick and easy way to search for a friend to go out caching with. FindaGeoBuddy Let me know what you think about the idea Quote
+68 GUNS Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 Been having fun watching people coming in and out of the chatroom and forgot to come back and say I'd added myself to the map. Great idea. Quote
+The Bolas Heathens Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 (edited) I've added us too - it did not know where Bolas Heath was so we had to go for the nearest town which is about 7 miles away. I think you got your location wrong Hazel, unless you have moved to the North East of the country Edited July 13, 2006 by The Bolas Heathens Quote
+*mouse* Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 Good idea! Added myself and hopefully others will too. Quote
+Bambography Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 I'm there! If the search doesn't find your home town, you can drag the map and zoom with the +/- buttons - then click where your home is the marker will move to where you have clicked. Meaning you can be as precise as you wish. Quote
+John Stead Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 Looks quite good to me and I've joined. Now how long before a newcomer finds it and asks for help? Quote
SlytherinAlex Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 Geobuddies? Haven't I heard that name before somewhere?? Quote
+stora Posted July 13, 2006 Author Posted July 13, 2006 Geobuddies? Haven't I heard that name before somewhere?? Oh &^^%$*. NOW I remember where I've heard it Quote
+HazelS Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 I've added us too - it did not know where Bolas Heath was so we had to go for the nearest town which is about 7 miles away. I think you got your location wrong Hazel, unless you have moved to the North East of the country oops... now I always liked geordie accents, but no - I'm still in Wirral!!! Quote
+Bambography Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 If you so wish, once you are on the map, click on the Take this Chat With You link under the chat room on the right. Then on the Frappr Map section click Get This Widget. When you are happy with the settings click I'm Done. You can then copy the html link provided into a section in your Profile as with other such tools. Make sure you check the new "I use HTML box' otherwise it won't show. Quote
+milvus-milvus Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 There's already one of these, created maybe a year ago: http://www.frappr.com/geocachers Quote
+stora Posted July 14, 2006 Author Posted July 14, 2006 There's already one of these, created maybe a year ago: http://www.frappr.com/geocachers Great minds think alike I have set the FindaGeobuddy one up for new UK Geocachers to search for Geocachers in their area. It would also help anyone coming over here on their hols and wanted to get in touch with a cacher. I've tried to email the site admin of the link above, but there does not seen to be one ? Quote
+Seasider Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 Geobuddies? Haven't I heard that name before somewhere?? Great idea BTW. Cheers! Seasider Quote
+The Flying Boots Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 Great idea. Not sure if I've added ourselves correctly yet, we don't seem to have appeared on the map. Quote
alistair_uk Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 I wondered why I was not showing up on the Geocachers map despite marking myself (or my office to be more exact) a long time ago. Then it dawned on my that there is another map and I was on that one. The other map is at http://www.frappr.com/geocachersoftheworld if you are interested. Quote

+The Blorenges Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 OK. I've signed up. After a lot of cursing and muttering and assistance from MrB, I've got my pin in the right spot. I've tried out the "chat" with a few peeps.... However, on several occasions the program has caused IE to crash MrsB Quote
alistair_uk Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 Just one though. I use my office address for things like this to keep some form of privacy but I guess many of you are using your home address location. Perhaps is is worth considering tweaking your location by a few hundred meters to be on the safe side (but don't go the the extent Hazel went to ). Please note that I am not paranoid, they really are out the get me. Quote
