The way I see it, someone abstains if they don't really approve of the category but neither to they want to block it. But abstaining without adding a comment doesn't really seem to add any value to the voting process overall. Link to comment

It means "I have no issue with the Category as proposed, but it doesn't interest me either" If the majority of people "abstain", then perhaps the Category isn't worth hosting, even if there is nothing wrong with it. I have no right to say "NO" to a well created Category that I cannot participate in, or don't want to. You only get to Lead a total of 5 Categories... if you suggest one that is dull and boring to a majority of the community, why waste 1 of the 5? That is what "abstain" means to me. But that would mean they didn't see the category as worth voting for. Knowing why the indifference would be helpful, I think, to the category owner. Link to comment
