The Leprechauns Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 I think it's a tax attorney, but I'm not 100% certain. Quote
Metaphor Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 You didn't touch it with your bare skin, did you? Quote
geoduck.5 Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 I think it might be a Sagebrush lizard (Sceloporus graciosus). Sometimes the females during breeding season will have exaggerated color along the neck and sides. You could check with Chuck Peterson at ISU in Pocatello, he is the State Herp guy. Quote
geoduck.5 Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 I was wrong... Briansnat got it. Longnosed Leopard Lizard, female version. Quote

Jhwk Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 We saw this guy yesterday. Reverting to my childhood now, isn't that a horned toad or a horny toad? Who needs a biology degree! Quote
Miragee Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 I believe it is more correct to call them Horned Lizards. There are several different species of these guys. A Herpetologist might know the specifics. He was about six inches long . . . one of the largest I have seen. Quote
ranger-rob Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 Reverting to my childhood now, isn't that a horned toad or a horny toad? Who needs a biology degree! "Great horny toadys!" - Yosimite Sam Yeah, that's what that is. I remember seeing a varient of them in Texas when I was a kid Quote
RichardMoore Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 Okay, let's throw a ringer in here. I know what this is, but can someone else identify it and tell me why the picture is deceiving? It's been seen in Northern Ohio for the last couple weeks. Quote
89SC Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 (edited) I came across this eastern fence lizard while trying to climb a steep hillside in TN looking for a cache: We're supposed to have them in WV but all I've been seeing here are snakes. Edited July 6, 2006 by 89SC Quote
Googling Hrpty Hrrs Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 This was the biggest skink I've ever seen: BTW Team Jsam, that's one cool lizard you found. I'm glad you had your camera! Quote
Zzyzx Road Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 WOW! That is a Nat'l Geographic contender photo if I ever saw one! Detail and setting...that is a really pretty picture! And the lizzardo is neat too! Quote

El Diablo Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 This is Larry my Eastern Fence Lizard. He has been living in the same pile of rocks in my backyard for so long that I personalized his home. After some research though we discovered that Larry is probably a Lacey, but I'm to lazy to change the sign. El Diablo Quote

brodiebunch Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 We never have cool stuff like this in Washington state, only Geoducks and Banana Slugs Quote
Zzyzx Road Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 I don't know about that! I remember seeing a sunset from the Oregon/Cali border (Crescent City I think, and I know that isn't Washington, BUT) and it had been raining, there were a bunch of offshore clouds, but the sun was shining on them as it was going down, waves were high due to storm...the water was a neat purple-y color...DANG that was a pretty one. I can't help but think you would have something like that in good ole' Wash also! Quote
