sudamar
Did I read somewhere that I can't load the entire U.S. map from City Navigator V8 on my l gig. flash card? Will I have to buy one of the just released 2 gig. cards to get the entire country on one card? Does anyone know exactly how much space V8 takes up. Thanks. Quote Link to comment
+GrateBear
Someone did post in here that it took a bit over 1 1/2 gigs in total. Where did you find a 2 gb card? Is this a micro card? I can find regular cards, but not micro cards. Edited July 1, 2006 by GrateBear Quote Link to comment
+Sputnik 57
Garmin firmware currently limits the number of maps (not just the space) that you can load onto a card. If I recall correctly, you just cant load the entire US onto one card (although I'm not sure why you would want to). Why not put it onto 2 1GB cards, one for East of the Ol' Mississip and one for West (or one for states that begin with I, M and N, and one for all the rest) Quote Link to comment
sudamar
Several people were talking about the 2 gig micro cards in here last week. They said they were something new and sell for about $69. If you could have the whole nation on one card, wouldn't that be good? What would be the disadvantage? Quote Link to comment
Glenn W
If you have an "x" type Garmin, you need to use transflash (Micro SD) memory, currently limited to 1 Gb. The entire US in CN8 takes up 1.5 Gb. If a 2 gig chip is released soon AND the "x" series are compatible with them, then there should be no trouble getting the entire US on one chip. CN8 is broken into 284 map files well below the firmware limit of 1020 files. Unless you are planning a trip in which you will visit all the states, there is little actual benefit in installing all the US maps. Even if you are planning a coast to coast trip, you can select an enormous swath along your planned route and load it to a 1 gig chip. Just a thought. +theslowskys
I used up 595 MB of my 1 GB card today just loading NA V8 and Topo V7 for Washington, Oregon, CA, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, part of southern New Mexico, most of Texas and Louisiana. It took a long time to calculate and index (35 minutes or so) and then about 60 minutes do transfer all of it. That was through the USB port. So I decided to just buy a couple more 1 GB cards. Then I can have them loaded with about 1/3 of the US each should I ever need more than what is in the one I typically use around here. Make sure you get the TRANS FLASH SCAN DISK as some of the other one that are NOT labled TRANS FLASH do not work with loks of data and go bad according to some other posts. Quote Link to comment
+rstickle
well below the firmware limit of 1020 files. I believe the firmware limit is 2025 segments, at least on the 60/76 series. Rick Quote Link to comment

+minusfluke
I've loaded from North Dakota down to Texas and all the states West of there. Except Alaska and Hawaii. I've also done the samething for the topo maps. It pretty much fills my 1 gig card to the rim. Quote Link to comment
