What Is Your "spare-time" Job?

We're just plainly asking this question, so we know what we're up against when we do mystery caches  :

What keeps you busy during the week, when you're not geocaching?

For example, we guestimate that GlobalRat must be some math's professor that is in high demand. (We're sure he charges by the hour, as he seems to travel a helluva lot!) - because for the past 2 months, we've been still trying to fiqure out Stoddard's Demise, but to no avail, those puzzles are still giving us the run-around! B)

We're also sure that cache-fan, cowandchicken, TVM and everybody else in the top 10 have made their millions during their youth from some well-paying job (like burying bodies or something else like that), because who has the time (and money!) to drive 8500km around the country to geocache? (apart from CnC) - we're jealous <_<

Okay, we'll start! We're a team of students, perfectly adapted to the game of geocaching, with future careers as an accountant, a marketer, a civil engineer, and a parking attendant. :)

Anyone else that does something interesting in their "spare time"? B)

P.S. We're looking for a hot blonde to join the team, for group motivation. Must have 4x4, gold credit card, and know how to fillet fish - all applications can be forwarded to this address

c'mon ! Where's the ambition ?!?. It's the PLATINUM card you should be looking for. ;)

As for me, my 'other' job is programmer. Bought a T-shirt on Saturday that reads 'Born to Dive. Forced to work'. I think I should have the 'dive' changed to 'Cache'.

Does Percy Montgomery know how to fillet fish? I'm sure otherwise he qualifies... (You need to be more specific)

(In my spare time I'm a business analyst/programmer)

was reading The Star Workplace this morning, and on page 44, it advertised:

not sure if this is up your alley, though if it was, you'd have to come and cache in Joburg though

Me I'm a "still life photographer" for those who dont know what that it is, I photograph dead people.

The victimes of crime and occasionally the victims after of looking down the barrel of a police officers firearm. So thats why i'm so passionate about caching it gets me out into another world filled with fun.

will be leaving the police soon then i will be working for my wife which is cool cause then i'll be sleeping with the boss too.:wub:

Gotta win the lotta so i can become a professional geocacher

I'm in the top 10 because i used to work for a call centre (Where BAA! and kool Beanz work too - although they have day jobs)

I worked shifts, so I would work 5 days, and then get 3 days off! NICE!!

Also, there were a lot of night shifts, which allow for caching time during the day.

Now I am unemployed, and am trying to start 2 businesses, but the problem is that i am a slack lazy bugger when working for myself - probably because the boss is so understanding

One of the businesses does in fact involve geocaching, and the other another trip to South America on 10th July - Happy Times!!

However, if i now go geocaching during the week, i start to feel guilty and bad about not working - I guess i'll have to learn to overcome those guilty feelings

Larks, let me know if the parks board needs more people to roam the mountains willy nilly for pay!!

I won the lottery a few weeks ago - it gave me almost enough money to afford the entrance fee to EIEIO today!!

Wow - I don't know if I would've like to have been the photographer at this week's shootings in Jeppe's Town, Joburg.

4 cops vs. 20 gangsters - I would've just thrown a grenade in there, and sent in the 4 policemen to pick up the pieces

Anyways - condolences to all of their families

:o Have you guys never heard of annual leave and bonus?

Thats how one can afford to ride 8,500kms.

Annual leave? Bonus? As an American these are all new concepts to me.:D:D

You South Africans have some nice perks about working. 13th paycheck!!!!!! WOW Tea staff?

But what does the notorious CNC do for those perks? :D

Tricky Vicky is a chemical engineer, semi-retired and runs a consultancy, which means he sometimes works and other times sleeps late.

Mickey is a nursing sister, definitely retired, but cares for the sick in the community and trains others to care, too.

We have three children, the eldest is married and lives in Scotland; our son lives in London and our youngest is at varsity, costing us a fortune.

We are fortunate enough to still have some voyager miles, which assists us with caching outside our beautiful country.

We are also the proud owners of a roof top tent and frequently enjoy becoming happy campers, while we go caching around our own country.

We also bought a Lotto ticket on Saturday, but our ship hasn't docked .... yet! :)

okay, that's it! we're now dedicated to becoming professional geocachers!

we need 5 "very lucky" geocachers to help us pick the next 5 numbers we will use in this saturday's lotto draw

our first number is: 3

so... if you're feeling incredibly lucky today, post only one number, and we'll use all 6 to put together a lotto ticket! If the combination comes out on tops, then we'll all go on one big geocaching hunt for the rest of our lives! what do you say?

P.S. Still waiting upon applications from hot blondes (preferably female) to wash 4x4 and hold GPSr while we're driving - food (caught in the wild) and accomodation (on the top of the clean 4x4) provided :(

My sparetime has up to now (2006) just taken up too much of my time. In my sparetime I am an IT Project Manager, which still gets his hands dirty with programming and other technical issues. Busy implementing a new Financial Unix application for one of the major financial institutions, after which I will be off (1 September) onto a new contract.

I should then have more time for important things like beer, caching, beer, family, caching, beer, whatever order it comes in.

My not so lucky, lucky number for the lotto: 8

I spot many IT people here. Seems we would al like to get AWAAAAY from all the issues and into the outdoors. Myself: IT Architect (20 years in IT). I have had no time to cache for months. As for winning the lotto - apparently I have a better chance (statistically) to be kicked to death by a donkey in my lifetime.

Back from a holiday in Kgalagadi ... unfortunately little caching to do there abouts!!!

I'm a pastoral engineer ... solve this one!

Hint: Work (normally) on Sundays ... and do some engineering on a soul or two during the week ...

PS: Nearly forgot: Retired hurt from caching ... PhD-studies using all the spare time I've got!! So I'm a cacher in hiding :drama:

Not you too! Clocking 10 years myself, also an IT architect working in R&D for my company. It's a tough job but someone has to play with the new toys and see if they can be used in their "sparetime".

Interesting to read what you all do. In the times my wife and I get away from raising twin boys (almost 4) and a little girl (almost 2), I'm an avionics engineer and she's a sport scientist. Yeah, I'm the lucky bugger who gets to fly the Hawk flight simulator (amongst other things) up in Makhado every two weeks and call it my job :-)

hey guys!

sorry, no lotto win for us over the weekend - will just have to do some more "local" caches for now :D

isn't anyone around here a travel agent or know someone who is?

would people (let's say in Gauteng) pay for a 5 - 10 day Geocaching trip around a certain part of the country? (Say the package includes 10 people in a Sprinter from Joburg down to Durban and back, with accomodation, etc. with about 50 - 100 cache finds?)

I understand it might not be worthwhile for people with high cache finds, but let us think about the "average joe" here :D

think this would be very expensive? (maybe it would end - or begin - at the annual cache awards - see seperate post) - just an idea

50 - 100 caches in the great sand pit that is DBN!(need i say more)

This would be a hectic 10 days if you are planning 10 caches each day!

You would need a special drivers licence as well...

I think my next great GC expenditure will be the national event down in the EC, but an interesting idea.

I am a fairly unemployed Tourist Guide at the moment, so Geocaching is great for me as I get to visit some very nice and interesting places. The tourist industry is fairly quiet at this time of the year, which is normal, and things usually pick up around October. I also do Volunteer guiding for the Table Mountain Ariel Cableway Co, which involves taking tourists for a walk around the top of the mountain.

I'm a Senior Subsea Engineer working for an American oil company. I travel between our company’s oil rigs. At present I’m on the Pride North America in the Mediterranean of the Egyptian coast, 20 min helicopter flight from Alexandria

This job takes up far to much of my time!
