R.O.B Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 I thought it would be interesting to see how far people have to travel to get to their closest unfound cache. How far away is yours...? The closest unfound cache for me is currently 2.4 miles away. Quote
Yellow ants Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 (edited) The closest unfound cache for me is currently 2.4 miles away. 1.44 km, GCKFET Edited June 28, 2006 by Yellow ants Quote

ncfinn Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 My closest unfound cache is 1.1 miles (1.8km) away. I have not yet even tried to find it. In two days I will travel about 4,600 miles (7400km) to go caching. Quote
Bambography Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 From home its a lazy 0.86km (GCQYKA). From where i'm currently sat - About 300m (GCR1G8)!! I really should just get out there and do them one lunchtime! Quote

OzGuff Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 7.9 miles from my home coords 16.3 miles from my work coords Quote
thedeadpirate Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 35 miles. Unfortunately, I am the only hider in my town. Quote
CoyoteRed Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 At present the closest is 6.9 miles. We've slowed down a bit so there is now 30 within a 50 mile radius. At one time we were down to only one within 50 miles at 48.9 miles away. Quote
Beffums Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 There's one 0.9 mi, but it's disabled. The closest active cache is 8.5 mi away, and requires a boat (which we don't own). Closest non-boating cache is 10.7 mi, and we already dnf'd it once. We'll retry it probably this weekend (it's new). Closest that we haven't tried is officially 11.8 mi, but due to the rather large river between us and it (the Ohio), it's about a 40 mile drive each way to get to it. Quote
ArriBlossom Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 0.8 miles. It's a micro and there are no other caches within walking distance of it. I have no reason to visit this area which isn't all that interesting to begin with. Maybe someday when I'm so bored out of my mind that watching a marathon of Good Times on TVLand begins to look like a good time. Quote
Team Neos Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 Like Beffums, the nearest cache I haven't yet done is across the mighty Ohio, only 1 mile from me--but at least 5 miles one way to the cache by road. Ten pages out from me only takes me 4.7 miles from the house though, and there are over 2000 caches within 50 miles of home. SHould keep me busy for a little while. Quote
NetworkCacher Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 2.0 miles, to the as yet unfound GCWMKZ , part of the locally famous (or infamous) Liver cache series. Quote
MMattyK Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 I try to keep everything within a 10 mile radius of home found... but there's always new ones appearing Quote
StarBrand Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 (edited) 38 miles but it has been disabled 4 times for extended periods in the last year for missing stages so I generally just avoid it. 44 miles to the next one. Only 1 cache within 10 miles of home that wasn't hidden by me. Only 3 within 50 miles that I haven't found. Edited June 28, 2006 by StarBrand Quote
uber_bike_geek Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 Nearest unfound is 3.1 miles away, but it's a multi that I started a while back and haven't had the time to get that way to find the final yet... The next one on my list is 3.8 mi. Happy Caching! Jeff Quote
Bear Paughs Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 0.4 Miles to the east, but the vertical climb is much more. It's a multi for which I found the first stage but DNF the final cache at the mountain's top. I keep waiting for the perfect day to get back up there. Quote
ParentsofSAM Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 3.1 miles....it just became re-activated. It was missing for the longest time. We only have 5 unfound within 10 miles. Quote
Groovy Cachin' Dude! Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 0.9 miles...granted it is a 2.5/5. I know where it is, I just haven't brought a ladder down there yet! Quote
ParrotRobAndCeCe Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 There's a nano less than a quarter mile from my house I can't find for the life of me. Quote
agilefox Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 7.7 miles to a cache with an extended hike is the only unfound within 10 miles of home. I was close to it once, finding four others in the area, when the sun went down. I'm considering when I can get it, but from the recent logs I may wait until the poison ivy dies down. Quote
radioscout Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 A 1/1.5 Traditional, only 0.5 miles away. But I think I will never be able to log it. It is (legally!) located in a public building. When I searched for the cache someone told me that I have to leave the building. Quote
Furious_T Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 How sad is this...GCVGJ6 is 0.1 Mi from my house...literally around the corner and i couldn't find it Quote
Davispak Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 .9 miles from home. It is a puzzle cache and I am not to fond of them. So it sits there undone and will probably stay that way for a long time. Quote
DocDiTTo Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 1.8 miles away. Been past it a few times, never stopped. Nano on a narrow bridge. Quote
Team_Talisman Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 Had saved a couple less than 2 miles from me, that were covered with snow till about 30 days ago...Thought good easy summer time caches... Ha had surgery on knee so there they set for a while longer Quote
FamilyDNA Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 0.2 miles. We live in a pretty dense area and were feeling pretty good about having cleared out just over 3 miles from home, but then a couple of new ones popped up. Maybe today if the temp stays under 100... Quote
wandererrob Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 0.4 miles to the nearest with about 40 unfound within 5 miles of me. No lack of caches here. Quote
paintfiction Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 Now? Who knows.... but.... a year or so ago there was a cache that stayed at the top of my "nearest" list that was "HERE" miles away. Yep, you read it correctly. It seems if you use the exact coordinates of a person's home, you get "here" instead of 0.whatever miles away. A friend cleverly deduced my home coordinates and used it for the bogus coordinates for an evil multi whose actual coordinates were 40 miles away. That one taunted me for some time. It was quite funny to see it at the top of my page. Quote

KKTH3 Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 (edited) The closest unfound cache to us - GCK9G5 - is only 15 miles away. It is one of only 2 unfound (by us) caches within 30 miles of here, but I'll have to do some serious prepping to get to that cache. There is a total of 13 caches within 50 miles of our house that are yet unfound (how unlucky is that) - but one was a CITO event a few months ago and we have yet to attempt any of the others. We'll probably get around to a half dozen or so before the snows come back in this winter - but almost all of them are in terrain that is a bit too rugged for us to all reach together. Especially that closest one. EDIT - added clarification of what we meant by "unfound" as the only local cache that is still virgin is one we placed ourselves last weekend. +Clothahump Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 0.3 miles. But it's a micro and I don't bother with them any more because they suck for the most part. Quote
steve_c Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 I'm amazed at the cache density some of you people have. My nearest unfound is about 10 miles away, and that only because it's across the border in Sweden from me in Norway and I have no other reason to drive out that way. There is only one other active geocacher in my home town, and he's a newbie, so nearly every cache near to me is one of my own. Quote
Boot Group Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 5.6 miles, a multi-cache in a state park I've been caching in many times. It's a huge state park, and apparently the multi-cache takes most of the day. It's not my favorite state park in the area, so I'll get to it eventually. With the price of gas, I've generally been choosing areas within 20-30 miles of home where there is a number of unfound caches by me, so I can knock of several in day. I have to go 20-30+ to find an area where I haven't found a good deal of them. Quote
wolfmaster Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 Yikes, the closest unfound cache is .2 miles away. I have 20 within 3.1 miles. I guess I better get off my duff and get caching Quote
Night-Hawk Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 My closest to home is currently 27.1 miles. One my closest to home page, #20 is 56.9 miles away. About three weeks ago, I was down to 1 within fifty miles... DARN, I almost won. Quote
Gruntmo Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 3.5 km from my home coordinates. I DNF'd it on my first time attempting Geo caching. Regards, Nick Quote
Former Hawkeye Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 3.1 miles(new yesterday) and then its jumps to 14.3 (tick heaven) and then 40.5 miles (a little hard on the gas budget). Me-to pass the time I have been placing caches in my area, so others won't have the same problem. Its helping-found 2 yesterday that were within 10 miles!!! Quote
Jhwk Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 35.7 miles. No fun. That's what happens when you live in a target poor environment... Quote
Big Max Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 The nearest is 1.5 miles. If I get time this evening I plan on tackling this one. Otherwise, it will have to wait a while till I get home from vacation. The nearest to work is 0.4 miles. I have a dnf on this as there was some confusion as to the actual location. I have good coordinates now so just a matter of time. High muggle area, especially at lunch which is when I would like to do it. I may have to do the clipboard and tape measure disguise for it. Quote
