There were quite a few 3's and 3.5's in there too. According to another cacher in a different thread, over time, everyone's averages will be the same anyways (just kidding) Quote Link to comment

+horsegeeks
Our Average Difficulty/Terrain is 1.72/1.55. Summers are tough on us "older folks" so we find ourselves going on the long difficult hikes and the tougher caches in the cooler months. The shorter hikes, less that a mile and a half can be done when it is a bit cooler in the mornings and evenings and the urban micros we enjoy year round. +the hermit crabs
The average of our last 50 attempts (which includes 46 finds and 4 DNFs) is 2.01/1.89. But it's pretty meaningless... one with a difficulty of 3 was something we walked right up to and found almost right away; one DNF that we spent a long time on is described as "an easy find" with a difficulty of 1.5. Thank goodness for the urban micros or we would be very bored in the hot months Avg Difficulty 1.70/1.63. I'm a younger person, and I like doing the tougher caches in fall and winter too. After sweating it out, going through mud, getting caught in a cloud of mosquitos, bushwhacking through jungles, and finding some ticks on me a few weeks ago, I decided to change my caching habits. Going more for the city park and park n' grab caches now. Once fall and winter come around, I'll be back to a more balanced diet of urban and woodsy hides. Quote Link to comment
+the hermit crabs
The difficulty rating may not be the thing you're interested in, if you're really wondering about park-and-grab vs. park-and-hike. This cache has a difficulty rating of only 1 (as it is apparently an easy find once you're there) -- but it's certainly no park-and-grab: it's a difficult 5-mile hike/climb, with a terrain rating of 5. +Jhwk
As to your first question, I usually park and hike. That is the main reason I started caching - to get my fat lazy rump off the couch. Haven't run the stats yet, but think the last time I did I was in the 1.7/1.9 range. Quote Link to comment
+nfa
I understand the question, and have some thoughts: 1) the ratings are nearly meaningless given the differences among the people hiding the caches and the people finding the caches 2) anyone willing to devote the time to figure out their "score" is playing a significantly different game then I am That being said...have fun! +Trizumi
I have only been caching for about a month and a half. I started when the temperature down here in Arizona was a like more moderate, so I was trying to do more hiking and caching. Now our temps are in the mid to upper 100s, I am sticking to the park in caches. With our temperature soaring to 113 this weekend, I may have travel to northern AZ to feed my jones. Being relatively new here, I do like the park and grabs so I can get a feel for the neighborhoods in the area. Without geocaching I would never travel around to all of the various neighborhoods in Phoenix. 88 unique caches. 88 total logs. 88 finds. Avg. Difficulty = 1.51 Avg. Terrain = 1.44 Avg. Are you still getting the missing "xerces-c_2_7.dll" error? You also need to specify the name of your GPX file as a command line argument. Quote Link to comment

Sorry for the dumb questions. The .dll file needs to be in the same directory as the executables. Extract the files in the same directory. Afterwards, just drag the GPX file over the executable and release it. The file will run and it will generate a text file with the results. Quote Link to comment

I really wanna see a 5 star in our area that isn't one just because a boat is required. There are some 3/3's and up that I'm now saving for fall and winter so I can avoid the crowds of hikers, bikers and families in those areas. +brodiebunch
The highest difficulty was a 3, the highest terrain was a 3. Not the same cache though. I checked all our cache finds and came up with the conclusion that we do a little of both, grab and hike. I noticed that a majority of our cache finds in 2004 and 2003 are now archived or disabled. +ADK 46-R
I hate park and grabs, i think the whole point (to me) is to get out into the woods. the only exeption in my book for a park and grab is if it is a special place of intrest or a scenic overlook of some kind. So i tend to do the most difficult caches i can find, i dont care about the container, whats inside or what it is (micro, ammo box) its all about the adventure to me, and getting out of the car for a minute and getting back in is a pretty crappy adventure to me. +HoustonControl
I'd have to say it depends on the time of the year. Here in southeast Texas, I enjoy long hikes in the fall and winter time. Come summer, park and grabs are about all you can stand. There have been a series of "Beat the Heat" caches placed here in the Houston area specifically to facilitate summertime caching. Yeah, a few of the ones I have found would probably be lumped in the "lame micro" category, but others have been somewhat challenging and interesting. I went caching yesterday in 90+ degree heat coupled with very high humidity. After doing a bunch of short walks and park-n-grabs, I finished the day with a 1/2 mile (round trip) bushwhack through briars, thorns, mosquitoes and banana spiders to get a cache that has been on my to-do list for quite a while. By the time I got back to the cachemobile, I was drenched in sweat, covered with bug bites and leftover spider webs, and about half dehydrated. I was also determined to just stick to park and grabs until next fall. Quote Link to comment

I neglected to bring water and about halfway back to the car I began wondering if my wife would be able to find me if I had to call her to come get me. The temp was in the high 90's and I made a decision to avoid anymore of those caches until the weather cools off. I've been trying to push myself lately to do more, but I think it will be park and grabs for a while. No need to kill myself, right? Quote Link to comment

I would think a 1/2 mile RT cache IS a park n grab. Quote Link to comment
+Searching_ut
Hey, you learn something new every day. I must say thanks Briansnat for the link to a great program. Very interesting to look over your caching. I see I've done very little over the years and it looks like more park and grab than I'd like. It's almost embarrasing how few tough terrain ones I've done, but then again I normally cache during the times when I don't have hiking, or other adventures taking place.
