+Rattlingcrew Posted June 4, 2006 Posted June 4, 2006 (edited) SASO362 and SASO792 came up with this coin. I managed to snag a couple from them. I am not sure how they plan to distribute them. It is a nicely done coin and has its own icon. Just thought I would post this photo for your drooling pleasure. That light spot is a reflection of the ceiling lights. If you would like one, I would say to look up those two deputies and snag one from them. +UOTrackers Posted June 4, 2006 Posted June 4, 2006 This would be a nice coin to give to our Director of Public Safety, especially since he gave us blanket permission for caches in his district! So ok how do I get one?
+The Blind Acorn Posted June 4, 2006 Posted June 4, 2006 (edited) I wouldn't mind having this one because of my 8 years of EMS experience, but sigh...one is an unverified user. I emailed the one who isn't.... Edited June 4, 2006 by The Blind Acorn
+AtlantaGal Posted June 4, 2006 Posted June 4, 2006 (edited) Too bad they neglected to put their geocaching nicks on the coin. Then I think it would be a fantastic personal geocoin. As it stands right now, it's a generic coin that somehow managed to get approval for tracking numbers. Shame. Edited June 4, 2006 by AtlantaGal
+Brian - Team A.I. Posted June 4, 2006 Posted June 4, 2006 Ooh, I wonder if a trade would be possible on this coin. I am a former Arizona Highway Patrol Dispatcher, my Grandpa is a former fire chief, my uncle is currently a deputy sheriff, and I plan on testing for officer with the HP up here in the near future. It would be a perfect coin to add to my collection, but I'm with AG that GC names should have been included to truly personalize the coin.

I would suspect that if you asked them it is a Law Enforcement Car not a police car. Another SASO guy. SASO104 Edited June 4, 2006 by Eartha
+Kealia Posted June 4, 2006 Posted June 4, 2006 As it stands right now, it's a generic coin that somehow managed to get approval for tracking numbers. Shame. Everything gets approved for tracking numbers - why should this be any different? I agree that it would have rocked as a personal coin as well. Could it really be that some of the masses are starting to agree with "us" about relevant coins? FWIW - It's a nice design. I've got family in Law Enforcement as well.

I've got family in Law Enforcement as well. The line I draw isn't as restrictive as yours. I love the national park and seven summit coins... outdoors, nature, hiking. Those things all relate to geocaching for me. But this coin, while very nicely made, just doesn't interest me from a geocoin standpoint. IF their nicks were on it, I'd be first in line begging for a trade. It's just not as black & white an issue for me. Edited June 4, 2006 by AtlantaGal
+zygote2k Posted June 4, 2006 Posted June 4, 2006 Not personal enough for me. It seems like one of the many commercial coins being shown nowadays.

+Mandollyn Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 Red White & Blue! Nice coin... Crisp & Clearly defined in it's theme! However... Tracking numbers are the only thing that makes this coin "geo" anything.... Sorry, pass.
+webscouter. Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 What value do you derive from saying pass? If you don't want one just don't order one. I look forward to finding one of these next time I'm in Salina.

I look forward to finding one of these next time I'm in Salina. I think the idea is to let people know they are passing on the coin because it is not geocaching related. This might make the next person think twice about putting out a generic coin and calling it a geocoin. I pass too for this reason. Edited June 5, 2006 by Tharagleb
+Rattlingcrew Posted June 5, 2006 Author Posted June 5, 2006 I am in law enforcement, have been for 22 years, so it probably appeals to me more than most. I bought ten, two to keep, gave two away to friends and will either give out the other six at events or drop them in caches. I know of several instances where a geocacher has needed the services of at least one of these agencies. I guess they should have put something on there about rescuing geocachers. Makes no difference to me, they are nice coins and I will buy some more if they are not sold out when I get to it. Glen

+Marky Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 There's a lot of people saying Pass in here, when this thread wasn't started as a "buy this coin" thread. For all we know, they just plan on leaving these in caches, or releasing them to travel. Why be so negative until you find out what they intend to do with the coin. If I found one of these in a cache, I would certainly not pass on it. I think it's a pretty hot looking coin. --Marky
+Rattlingcrew Posted June 5, 2006 Author Posted June 5, 2006 I think they plan to sell a few, trade a few, drop a few, I know I have been giving the ones I bought away, another just left the house with a law enforcement officer and his wife, free of charge. They are new cachers and already a little frustrated at coins being listed in caches and not to be found. I thought they were cool, so I posted the thread. I am definitely not trying to sell them. They can pass all they want to, it was never an offer to sell. Glen

+Rattlingcrew Posted June 5, 2006 Author Posted June 5, 2006 This was never meant to be a thread to sell coins or poke at other members. I will close it now. Glen
