My Personal Geocoin

Ive finally gotten around to making a good draft of my coin (yes its been 5 months in the making ), and want your opinions.

The cost according to the only quote Ive gotten so far would be $7.23(250) $6.40(500) +shipping

Do you think there will be enough interest to warrant getting 500?

And then is a two coin minimum a good idea?

Ive also been presented with the option of getting 250 and having a BC Geocachers Icon.

I plan on having the fore sail and fore tops'l swing to port and thus reduce the light blue in the centre. Have the Maple Leaf a bit larger. And maybe have the flags angled (as if they were on a line).

Forgive my images I did them in Paint after all.

Plating: something with a gold hue

Size: 1.5 or 1.75

Thickness: 3–3.5mm

Die: 2D+2D

GC Tracking: Yes

Colours: [5 or less] & 5

Any and all comments will be appreciated.

If you would like to preorder or be put on a email list, make a post or send me a pm.

When its minted I'll send you a message with all the details.

Interesting design. The smaller elements are going to be hard to discern on a coin though. If it gives you any idea on how they sell - I sold around 300 or so for $6.25/each that included S&H. I still have plenty left, but I stopped selling them until I can ensure that those who ordered get what they wanted.

I think 250 is safe and you might do ok with 500.

If it's going to be a personal coin, it's really missing your name to show that it represents you.

Personally I don't really like non-round coins that much, but that's just me and opinions vary on this.

Given that it's a personal coin (right?) do what YOU like.

It looks like a handsome coin, though I wouldn't guarantee that I'd buy it. I would probably not be interested in a 2-coin minimum. I see that your name is on the coin, just encoded a bit.

Am I blind?

Ok, if it's there, feel free to picture me with a foot in my mouth on that one. <_<

Was just about to post a helpful link but then thought to let you figure it out for yourself and then noticed the post above.

And will look into how big the flags can get.

From what I have seen in the forums having an icon will really help your coin sell most wont buy without an icon, like me (I am a icon ho) as they call it, or should I say I am starting to become one <_<

I'd be interested in one or two coins. I agree with the others though that some of the fine detail may be difficult to capture in a 1.5"-2" coin. Someone once suggested printing out a design to scale to get an idea of what it will look like. Then you can more easily see which details stay legible and which get lost.

I think the picture above said it all!

This is why I stay away from puzzle caches....

As far as the OP and whether or not it will sell 500 coins. I think you need to decide what you want from this project. Do you want to sell coins (in that case, take as much feedback as you can and have thick skin) or do you want to create a personal item to leave in caches or trade with other cachers?

If the latter, I recommend doing whatever the heck you want on the coin and paying for it yourself. Then do whatever you want with them. Leave them in caches, trade them, use them as throwing stars, etc.

A lot folks have recently tried selling personal coins only to come up very short on the numbers and then wish they had done a smaller run and financed it themselves.

Food for thought.

Here's a professionally done image for you

What do you think?

I like it! I would think about placing the tracking # on the ship's side and theb using the extra space to enlarge the flags a bit. JMHO...But it is YOUR coin, and it is very "handsome", or Rad, as I like to say

Just a little pic update, Thinking of having a mix between the one above and this one.

I think this one is better!

Yeah!!! I agree :) I just read this whole thread from top to bottom, having not read any of it before, and as soon as I saw this image, I went, "Hey, I'd buy a couple of those!" Putting the maple leaf on the front just made the whole thing sing a lot better. And the organization on the back is great, especially now that the ID number is likely to be big enough to read without an electron microscope (a particular bugaboo of mine; make that ID number as big as possible). Maybe you can up the quantity on this, and get an icon. I really think that you might have a winner, here.

Well, Ive sent in my deposit to Landsharkz so Its being made for sure.

As of now there will be 250 made and be selling 200.

"Coin Description

250 Quigley Jones Trackable Geocoins: 2” tall, 3.5mm thick, 2D + 3D, Trackable on Geocaching.com with a custom BC Cacher’s Icon. This quote is for Plating in polished nickel. One other metal, in a quantity of about 50 (to be discussed with the customer) is optional."

I really like the second one- by organizing all the flags like that, it functions wells. It was a little hard to follow with the more scattered flags. I think this will be a very neat coin when it's all done.

Posted

I would pick one of these up if you made it to 500 and had a icon.

I second that. It's a really nice coin, but IMHO, it would be better with an icon. :} If you want suggestions, a boat outline or a pennant would look cool.

My uneducated guess would be that they are made around mid-end of August.

And these coins do come with an Icon. The "British Columbia geocachers" icon that has yet to be released, its a pacific dogwood flower over the geocaching colours.

Cool! I'll definately keep an eye out for this coin.
