jayheel Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 I have a legend cx and with 512 card in it. What I would like to do is to have both sets of maps so I can autoroute when on the road and then use the topo for trails and some geocaches currently i have to take out and put in another card, please tell me there's an easier way thanks, jayheel Quote
+Maingray Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 Unless it's very different to the non-X version, you can have both sets of maps loaded up... the map will only show one at a time. Via "setup map" , "hide city select" and then then Topo will show. Reverse to re-show City Select. Quote

CN will show unless you select to hide CN. If you hide CN then the Topo will show. Quote

GeoBobC Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 Whenever you load (any) maps to the unit, it erases all the maps that were previously loaded. If you want Topo and City Nav together, they must be loaded at the same time. Quote

+ejnewman Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 (edited) In Mapsource, just select the parts you want on one map, switch to the other map, select the parts you want there, then do the transfer. It remembers what is selected when you switch maps and then will transfer the parts you want from both maps in one shot. Edited May 30, 2006 by ejnewman Quote
jayheel Posted May 30, 2006 Author Posted May 30, 2006 I imagine in Mapsource you can just select the parts you want on one map, switch to the other map, select the parts you want there, then do the transfer. I'm going to try doing that with mapsource as soon as I get home from work today. I did see in the setup map section where I can select and deselect the different maps do i have to go through and deselect all of the cn maps? i have 20 or so different ones to scroll through, I guess what i'm asking is there an easy way to select and deselect cn or topo maps all at once? Yes, there is a menu option to hide all the maps from a certain product. If you just want to see CN, do nothing - that mapset is visible by default. To see topo, find the 'Hide CN' option and select that. Quote

I'm assuming the menu option is on the map page Quote
Twilight Error Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 awesome! that makes me happy, i was getting sick of switching back and forth between the two cards. I'm assuming the menu option is on the map page map page ---> setup map ---> map setup - information ---> (hit menu again) hide/show "whatever product you want to see". At least, thats the sequence on my 76CS. I can't imagine the X series is too far removed. Quote
+ejnewman Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 (edited) My Vista CX has a list of all the maps on the device, with checkboxes that you can use to turn any combination of them on or off. This is handy for having my own homebrew topo maps showing at the same time as the garmin city maps. Edited May 30, 2006 by ejnewman Quote
ciprol Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 For Australia, there are topo line maps that can be overlaid on a CN map. This is a wonderful combination that's good for road navigation as well as others applications. It's all there on my Vista Cx's screen. Quote
+Sputnik 57 Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 For more details, and a quick way to switch between maps, see questions 7-9 in the Maps Section of the FAQ. The Legend Cx qualifies as a "similar unit." Quote
NewZealand Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 I have heard, there is a way to make the official Garmin topo maps transparent with some tool (so that they can be overlaid on the CN maps). Does somebody know more about that? Quote
