Topo Maps And City Navigator?

Recommended Posts

I have a legend cx and with 512 card in it.

What I would like to do is to have both sets of maps so I can autoroute when on the road and then

use the topo for trails and some geocaches

currently i have to take out and put in another card, please tell me

there's an easier way

thanks,

Using Mapsource identify the maps from CN and from the Topo map so both sets you've selected are listed in the maps that you upload to the GPSr. Once loaded with my 60 Cx I select to hide or show all maps from the map menu. CN will show unless you select to hide CN. If you hide CN then the Topo will show.

Unless it's very different to the non-X version, you can have both sets of maps loaded up... the map will only show one at a time. Via "setup map" , "hide city select" and then then Topo will show. Reverse to re-show City Select.

thanks i'll try that,

it seems like when i put the selected maps onto my card from cn, it erases my topo maps

and vice versa.

do i need to maybe connect my gps directly to the computer?

Whenever you load (any) maps to the unit, it erases all the maps that were previously loaded. If you want Topo and City Nav together, they must be loaded at the same time.

ok, so maybe dumb question but how to i load both at the same

time?

i usually select the ones in the topo maps and then transfer, then open up cn select and transfer

is there a better way? also have that problem when i want to do topo maps that are on east and west because of different cds

appreciate everyones help

In Mapsource, just select the parts you want on one map, switch to the other map, select the parts you want there, then do the transfer. It remembers what is selected when you switch maps and then will transfer the parts you want from both maps in one shot.

I imagine in Mapsource you can just select the parts you want on one map, switch to the other map, select the parts you want there, then do the transfer.

I'm going to try doing that with mapsource as soon as I get home from work today.

I did see in the setup map section where I can select and deselect the different maps

do i have to go through and deselect all of the cn maps? i have 20 or so different ones to scroll through, I guess what i'm asking is there an easy way to select and deselect cn or topo maps all at once?

Yes, there is a menu option to hide all the maps from a certain product. If you just want to see CN, do nothing - that mapset is visible by default. To see topo, find the 'Hide CN' option and select that.

awesome! that makes me happy, i was getting sick of switching back and forth between the two cards.

I'm assuming the menu option is on the map page

map page ---> setup map ---> map setup - information ---> (hit menu again) hide/show "whatever product you want to see".

At least, thats the sequence on my 76CS. I can't imagine the X series is too far removed.

My Vista CX has a list of all the maps on the device, with checkboxes that you can use to turn any combination of them on or off. This is handy for having my own homebrew topo maps showing at the same time as the garmin city maps.
