I have Samurai Dan on the phone now and this is his question:

Can you state 3 ways of PERMANENTLY removing/erasing information from a hard disc drive?

my guess would be

Format C or whatever your hardrive is

Defrag?? does this delete the files i'm not really sure

Use a utility program that wipes out old files (don't ask me for a name cos i don't know)

remove hard disk from PC and douce with acid then burn come on baby light my fire

oops thats four never mind I'm probably wrong anyway

edited to try and spell douce but thinks she still has it wrong

Repeatedly overwrite the disk with varying data patterns, I once read somewhere that it's possible to read data that's been overwritten up to 10 times using VERY specialised equipment, so would recommend overwriting at least that many times.

Remove the disk and hit it repeatedly with something big and hard (a 4lb lump hammer would be suitable), although it could be argued that this would simply make the data hard to retrieve rather than actually erasing it.

Stick it in a degausser and cook for 25 minutes on gas mark 7.

Take it down to Sellafield and ask them nicely to lower it into the reactor core.

Anything involving reformatting is not going to achieve much, and defragging wouldn't do much good either.

i) melt it; pour the molten steel into a mould to make a very small car; get a Hamster to drive the car. That'll crash it. Total wipeout, fer sure

ii) place it in a very powerful electromagnetic field for a lengthy period of time

iii) use a specialised piece of software which writes random bytes to every byte of the disc and then re-formats the disc.

Samurai Dan had to run out the door as he is off being a Samurai tonight :P He gives his apologies as he wanted to come in and mark your homework himself. From the answers he hurriedly told me I think The Forrester was the closest. I'm not to sure about the hampster bit though :D

So... you can either wait until Samurai Dan decloaks later which will be about 10ish to get the exact answer or we can declare The Forrester the Samurai question winner

All the answers given were original and would do the job me thinks!!!

As I got the Prime Minister one right and didn't set a question I'll take the next one.

I'm sitting ripping all my CDs to PC so I can download them into my new iPod.

I came across a CD in my collection that is pretty much universally know not by the title of the CD/album but by a description of the album cover.

Not a difficult question I think. What cd/album is that?

a.

Would it be the Beatles 'White Album'?

Would it be the Beatles 'White Album'?

It would. I said it was easy. :D:lol:

I'm just deleting the crap tracks off the album before I put it on the iPod.

I have no desire to sit for 15 minutes listening to Revolution Number nine... number nine... number nine... number nine... number nine... number nine... number nine... number nine... number nine... number nine... number nine... number nine... number nine... number nine... number nine...

The Lone Ranger and Tonto are surrounded by Indians. "What are we going to do Tonto?", says the Lone Ranger.

"What do you mean 'we' white man." Says Tonto.......

Sorry, had to do it!

Ok, if you want it that way(off topic). The Lone Ranger is galloping along on Silver with a dustbin strapped to his back.

Tonto enquires, "where are you going Kimu Sabe?"

The Lone ranger replies "To the dump, to the dump, to the dump, dump, dump".

In the biblical story of Joseph and his multicoloured coat, Jacob had 12 sons, can you name them?

Sarah

(recovering from the shock of correctly answering the last question)

I can honestly i can, i know the lyrics to a certain song but to post the verse on here would spoil it cos i can't think of a question

You sing the song: we'll follow on

verse one

Way way back many centuries ago,

Not long after the Bible began

Jacob lived in the land of Canaan,

A fine example of a family man.

Jacob, Jacob and sons,

Depended on farming to earn their keep.

Jacob, Jacob and sons,

Spent all of his days in the fields with sheep.

Jacob was the founder of a whole new nation

Thanks to the number of children he had

He was also known as Israel, but most of the time

His sons and his wives used to call him Dad.

Jacob, Jacob and sons,

Men of the soil, of the sheaf and crook

Jacob, Jacob and sons,

A remarkable family in anyone's book.

verse 2 i'll leave for you

I can only see & right answers

Judah

Dan

Zebulan

Joseph

Benjamin

Rueben

Levi

So that leaves 5

Sarah

The remaining ones would have to be:-

Dave Dee

Dozy

Beaky

Mick

Tich

Wouldn't they?

No - Julian, Dick, Anne, George and Timmy the dog

If those last five aren't correct then we noticed that Simon & Isaac weren't included in your right answers, so far and we realised that they should be :-

Simeon & Isaacar

Yes?
