barryhunter Posted May 19, 2006 Posted May 19, 2006 it hasn't displayed a calendar of UK events, oh wait... Quote
+Chris n Maria Posted May 19, 2006 Posted May 19, 2006 Well of course there is the calendar of events, But... Apart from the calendar of events and the saving on the modification malarky and the stats and the interactive maps and the downloads and the tube map and the rating system and the search by town and the database of all UK caches and see nearby trigpoints and search for T&J bears and the Handicaching Link and the OS Links and the clickable map links and the searching for archived caches and the remembering who you are and the searching by cache type and the keeping Ian,Barry & Brian off the streets and the make Moote look a bit silly and the really quick service and the being easy to use and the taking the load off of gc.coms' servers and the being free, honestly who can say that GCUK has ever done anything for us ? Quote
markandlynn Posted May 19, 2006 Posted May 19, 2006 well theres no wiki, no geocaching blog pages, unmoderated friendly forums, place to upload cache camera photos for free or a vote facility Quote

+Team Ballibeg Posted May 19, 2006 Posted May 19, 2006 (edited) Where's the WAP, I cant find it? Thanks, Dave Edited- Came across this in the forums from April.. Westonwanderers mobile phone query - 2006/04/20 21:06 What has happened to the download site for the midlet.? http://mobile.guk2.com no longer seems to works. I've looked through the forums and I can't find any mention of this super tool for over a year. Can anybody help?? Re:Westonwanderers mobile phone query - 2006/05/09 10:17 Unfortunetly, this tool no longer works, as Geocacheuk.com are unable to supply the coordinates for selected caches. I'm not sure if this was down to presure from GC.com, or other technical difficulties, but as it stands, the midlet is dead. Quite a shame, if you ask me. Cheers. Hmm, has it gone? +Alice Band Posted May 19, 2006 Posted May 19, 2006 Where's the WAP, I cant find it? If the GCUK one doesnt work anymore and you still want mobile caching software on your phone, try Jeremy's GC.com version at this link and install the application on your phone. I find it great for logging quickly on the go if you have a large amount to go through. Works on most model phones and this is the world wide version, so if you travel abroad you can find more caches on the go. My Nokia likes it and I'm told Motorola phones also work well with it. Quote

Learned Gerbil, if you go to the link via wap there should be an option given to you to download the application into your phone. If it doesnt appear please PM Jeremy himself. Quote

I see exactly the same as I see using Firefox - a wap page which crashes my Samsung as soon as a search for anything or log in. Jeremy is well aware of this problem as it has been raised in the relevant thread here. That extensive thread does not mention an application to download other than third party browsers. Quote
+freespirit1402 Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 i like my geocaching simple so dont use half the stuff everybody else on here uses as my idea of caching is to print the cache page out, load the waypoint through a cable into my basic model yellow etrex, put my boots on and go (ive only just gotten round to using google earth).......but i like the site, its user friendly, doesnt overwhelm you with technospeak, i enjoy looking up my stats and now ive discovered trigpointing gives you a medium for that too without complicating my life. so thankyou teasel et al for all your hard work Quote

This is why I wont use Samsung I have telephone engineering friends who all use Nokia for similar reasons. I went to the link I gave above and it did everything automatically direct to my own Symbian Nokia. just the one t+j bear??? you've not been trying hard enough!!! OI! alistair_uk Posted May 23, 2006 Posted May 23, 2006 Am I just odd?? Welcome to the club. As for GCUK I use it in combination with my own software to overly caches on a map for planning caching trips. I guess I could do it through GC.com, but GCUK is easer. This software also overlays icons on GoogleEarth without them jumping around. The combined queries with Trigpoints is also useful for me and I do like to use the rating system. Almost forgot, I also used GCUK to download all waypoints (GC and Trig) to load in to the SatNav and GC.com will not allow me to do that. You know I get the feeling that the main reason I use GCUK is because restrictions imposed on GC.com to prevent services like GCUK are overly crippling. Quote
nobby.nobbs Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 goody i'm kept behind after school again. be gentle with me miss. Quote
