Poker Chips

Forgive me if this has been asked before, but I did a search and found some sporatic info.

I am thinking of creating my own poker chips as a sig item. However, I wondered where the cheapest place to buy them is. I only wanted a certain color, so buying a full set won't help.

Also, does anyone use a sheet of stickers for the middle? If so, where do you get them? Or should is it easier to buy a full sticker sheet and use a paper punch (.5" or so) to make the centers?

Finally, what do you use to seal over the sticker so it doesn't smudge/blur/fade? Do you put them each in a zip bag?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

This is what I did for my poker chips...

First I bought a set, 200 coins / 50 each of 4 colors. I bought a set because it was only $10.88 at Wal-mart, you can also get a set for just under $10.00 there.

The center circle is approximately 1 inch. So I used a 1" hole punch. You can also us a circle cutter or stencil and hobby knife.

I use super clear packing tape to seal the sticker.

I have used Avery 2" x 4" stickers and can get 5 of each sticker out of a 2"x4" square, but a full sheet would probably be better and you could get more on it.

If I'm dropping it into a cache, I just drop it, no bag, but if I trade it, I bag it. I have one of my poker chips on a lanyard clip and used as a keychain. With the tape, it has held up very well.

I opted for the heavier 13.5 gram clay chips, these are the authentic style chips that are used in the casinos, they have a real nice heavy feel. I got mine from that forbidden "E" place.

It came in an alimunem case of 500 coins for $45.00 delivered to your door. Yes these are a little more expensive but a nicer quality. Broken down Walmart is about $0.05 per chip and the "E" place is $0.09 per chip.

As for labels well I went to that "E" place for those as well. You can get 1000 custom labels for $31.00 delivered to your door. That is $0.03 per label.

Total cost per poker chip $0.12, not a bad price for a signature item.

Rather than posting links here to that forbidden place, feel free to contact me and I will point you in the right direction.

Try this guy. I ordered from him and other than a shipping issue he seemed to have good pricing.

We held an event where we silkscreened wooden nickels and poker chips. I'm finalizing the project details on a pdf and will be posting it when it's finished.

We got some made a while back through an outfit called pokerchips.com They are official weight clay chips with the custom printed inlay on both sides. I we had our team logo (see avatar) and the gc logo on the other side (need to get approval first from Groundspeak) I beleive the minimum is 500 pieces. I haven't had any problem with them. We are very happy with them I have a few of hundred left. I would go back to them again.

Good luck!

Also if you like wooden nickels this guy makes some sweet ones.

GeoNickels.com

35 Nickels-$26 = 0.74 ea

50 Nickels-$35 = 0.70 ea

100 Nickels-$65 = 0.65 ea

150 Nickels-$96 = 0.64 ea

200 Nickels-$124 = 0.62 ea

Above prices include s/h and that is for full color on both sides...

I don't exactly understand, I mentioned geocoin software that I created on this forum some time ago. I am asking a shareware donation from anybody who intends using it on a regular basis but my post was removed almost immediately after being told that since I would make money off this, it was not allowed on the forums. Yet here is an extensive thread promoting business who sell poker chips and that doesn't seem to be a problem. I only mentioned my software because I had read a thread from another collector who was outright selling his software. Why is commerce in one form allowed but not for another person? The whole idea of people creating coins and selling them utilizing this forum is commercialism yet this same commercialism is halted in some instances. I don't understand! Don't get me wrong, I think it is great that people who are looking for sources for poker chips can find that information here. How about people who are looking for geocoing management software? How is it different?

Our signature item.

I stamped the eagle on the poker chip. I dated it & signed the back.

We bought the chips at Wal-Mart.

I also bought the plastic bags there. I made a small sicker for the label on the bag.

I’ve started a scrapbook of signature items I’ve treaded for.

I bought my 1" hole punch from Hobby Lobby. You can get them from any craft store that has scrapbooking. Got mine on sale for $7.50 though. My suggestion is to get a stencil and cutter or a adjustable circle cutter though. The hole punch will eventually wear down and you can't replace the blade like on a cutter.
