what i ned is I have a Germin etrex and when i go and place a cache how do i get the coords. I am new to placing a cache.

As far as your Etrex, I think you hold the "mark" button until the "mark waypoint" screen comes up. You might want to mark the spot several times and average the coordinates. The Etrex won't do it for you, but you can do it pretty easily in Excel.

I usually just put my GPSr where I want the coordinate to be and let it sit there for 5 minutes or so, then I mark the waypoint. This will get you pretty close depending on your accuracy level.

go to the compass screen - on the bottom is the data field - if you cycle through the different fields you will find one that shows your location coordinates.

 

make sure you set the coordinate field to the proper format in the units setup.
